Fair enough.

Komarov would save the Leafs right now.

Not sure why Nonis didn't bring him back and name him captain.

Have you heard that Finnish-Russian crap music they listen to over there...won't work, team will revolt.

Oh (frank) no, he wouldn't save them, need others to step up and throw their bodies around too with reckless abandon, especially on the forecheck.

You can say 'they need to compete harder' or 'skate better' all you want, but the bottom line is there is ONLY 3 possible problems with the Leafs: the coach/system sucks, the players suck, or both. As horrid as they are playing, and while we're not a contender team, the latter two just aren't believable to me.
- mcleafs

You're right. They have probably been doing the best they possibly can, but they are realizing that it isn't enough. I think the sad truth is that you lost a lot of talent in favour of toughness and truculence, and they can only achieve so much with that. The ceiling is lower, the players cannot exceed their abilities. This is when you start to blame DN and RC. It's ALL on them.

They signed Clarkson to do that... at a HIGH price too.
- Pecafan Fan

Not lightning fast, actually looks like a young antropov on his skates or the equivalent of a deer on skates trying to make a turn on the ice. Painful to watch.

What's even more weird is that 29 other GMs didn't try to trade for him (they could have had him for a roast beef sandwich).

But I've come to realize something: there are 30 stupid NHL GMs.

Leafs Nation is who you need to listen to.

Komarov is the answer.

I'm guessing the confidence level of every team about to play the Leafs right now would be sky high - especially the guys who like to pad their stats. Licking their chops, excited and full of energy. Nice way to start a game.

People railing on Phaneuf I just don't get, considering what is asked of him, who he plays with, and what he's working with. It's such a Leaf fan argument to look at his salary, then figure out a way to critique him in any way possible. It's absurd.

It's the same for Clarkson. Yes, I get it, he's paid a lot and not producing. But if you for one second think that we got ripped off because we paid a guy who produced on a second line and then stuck him on a third with two BS linemates and think he all of sudden has the skill to do it alone you're just insane.

Forest for the trees folks. Stop just looking at a salary, then looking at a point total and then scream and yell.

- mcleafs

I agree on Phaneuf. Even ignoring Clarkson's salary ....he's been bad. He's getting third line minutes b/c Raymond stole his spot and has simply been playing better than him. That being said I'd probably put Clarkson up with Lupul and Kadri to shake the team up a bit. Give him 20 minutes and some tough assignments and let him seal his own fate. Raymond probably moves on for more bucks in the summer anyway.

There is no one answer AW, but rather he would be a step in the right direction for our 4th line. Unless you guys like having Orr and McLaren out there.

And what do 29 other gms have to do with it? He chose the bigger bucks back home.

Komarov playing with Kulemin and Mclement and Clarkson playing with Loops and Kadri is actually a pretty big deal.

Leo is a headcase, he just wants to go out there and destroy everything that moves. That poop is infectious.

Get out of here the guy never got the chance to give it a go on the 2nd because of RC and his steadfast belief in a shutdown line. Raymond got taken OFF the 3rd, rather than played his way onto the 2nd because of this.

Lines need balance on the Leafs, and its why Bozie works so well on the first. The 2nd and 3rd lines are just complete garbage and totally unbalanced.

Will Clarkson be worth it when/if we move him to the 2nd? I have no clue, maybe maybe not, but I've no doubt it'll be better than what we've got going right now.

"not great" is a relative term. Considering is qualcomp, ice time and other important stats his numbers are actually pretty impressive at 5 on 5.

Leafs Dmen ....5 on 5 goals against
Phaneuf 23
Gunnars 21
Franson 39
Reilly 35 (36 games)
Gardiner 29
Ranger 27 (36 games)
Fraser 13 (19 games)

- The Law

Divide that by ice time, and it becomes scary how much better Phaneuf is than the rest of the team.

And I'm not saying that to pump Dion's tires. It's just to illustrate how bad the rest of the D is.

Gunnarson needs a hip operation. He can't pivot - guys are walking around him.

Franson is the most over-rated player in the history of the Leafs.

Rielly should have been on the Team Canada juniors. This will be a lost year.

Gardiner is a work in progress.

Ranger shouldn't be in the NHL.

Ditto for Fraser.

I dont understand why the Leafs call up Ashton and give him only a little over 3 mins last night - they were getting blown out - give him some ice time

Komarov was a 4th line scrub who contributed nothing of importance to the Leafs. His hit totals were wildly inflated by an ACC statistician who handed them out like candy.

The Leafs suck because their defence sucks, and they have tuned out Carlyle.

Suggesting that bringing back a fringe player would help the Leafs is laughable.

And sad.
