Great....in the short term yes.
This is pretty much the same team that overachieved last year......its also pretty much the same core guys that played well for a bit under Wilson (run and gun) and then completely collasped several times.

You see a trend here?
Bring in a new coach....and they'll play a little better for maybe the rest of the season.
Then they'll completely fall apart again.....and everyone will be back to blaming the coach.

Forget about the players, forget about the complete lack of leadership and pride in their game.

Phaneuf, Bozak, Kessel and Lupul I'll give you, the rest? no

The Leafs have two road wins since October. Two. Both in the shootout. One was the Winter Classic.

sadly I see little to indicate that an one is thinking about anything out there... unless that's what the blank vacant stare and Richards in hand is for...

there are plenty of examples of coaching changes that turn teams around
I hate to use is Ottawa.. Clouston to Mclean ..that might have made a little difference.

They may not be core guys but the below are still around from the wilson days.

Franson
Gardiner
Gunnar
Kulemin
Kadri
Reimer

So a pretty good chunk of the team

unfortunatly Nonis has signed 7 year deals for Kessel, Dion and Clarkson.. so he has made his decision. I really dont see him try to move any of them. we only have the coach to fire, and at this point if a new coach can come in and squeeze something out of the team to manage the playoffs then great. hire and "interim" coach then decide in the off season.

If nonis want to dump anyone for as many picks as he can, I am on board with that. like I was in 2008 when Burke didnt.

options are limited, but its only going to get worse for Carlyle once the chants start. Carlye wont turn the team around anymore

Franson: 7th d-man under wilson
Gardiner: ok, his rookie season
Gunnar: garbage to me
Kulemin: I dunno
Kadri: Wilson whipping boy
Reimer: GOD!

I remember playing Tyke hockey, and having 2 breakouts we learnt them in 1/4 of a practice.

We may just have a team full of really dumb people.

I now envy Buffalo they suck, but not any worse than the leafs, and have lots of picks and should get more.

The leafs will deal nobody for picks and probably trade some for players in desperation.

one 48 game season of limited success since 2004... which is almost zero improvement in 10 years

- senstroll

they are going to turn that poop around in a hurry. they've already got some really high end picks in the system, 2 top-5 picks this June and whatever they get in a Ryan Miller trade. and they don't have Kevin Lowe there to (frank) it all up.

I swear the Islander pick is conditional.....am I wrong?

Edit: Buffalo will receive a first-round pick in 2014 or 2015 at New York's choice, if the pick is a top 10 selection at the 2014 draft. If the pick is outside the top 10, then this will remain a 2014 pick.[46]

Funny thing is, the system work last season and everybody loved him for it, but people didnt like his personel decisions and still dont (totally agree). At the beginning of the season, most of the people on here calling for Carlyles head were the ones loving how the leafs played, and would scoff at anyone who pointed out the shots on net or possession stats and they freaked out on anyone who said this team would fall apart, and this team had no leadership.

But now...its all Carlyles fault.

- Fakepartofme

This was a solid team last year playing the same system that's being played this year. And the 'short season' argument is lame ....they were simply a pretty darn good team. They intimidated teams with physical play and were one of the better skating teams in the league. This year they're obviously a step behind in most games and they've been out-punched on most nights.

Why? What changed? G'tending on the whole hasn't been worse. The PP is still great. The obvious issues to me ...

1. The PK has gone from top 5 to bottom 5.
2. Any Dman not named Phaneuf and Gunnarson has been horrid in the DZone and at 5 on 5 play.
3. Kadri, Franson, Gardiner in particular have taken big steps backwards.
4. They've lost the physical edge that really defined them last year.
5. No forecheck.

Carlyle may not be to blame for all of that but like it or not part of his job is to keep these guys playing to their potential.

Maybe...but he's but stuck with absolutely crap D. You cannot fire the coach yet, until you give him a chance with better D....and better depth forwards.

i still like him

he's useless in a dump n chase offense tho.

he is the guy you stick in front of the net while the other four cycle the puck in the zone... sorta like what everyone else is doing to the leafs non stop
