hundred percent agree. its a ton of risk. but to me, the pronger deal is a deal you make any time you can. injury was horrible luck. you guys got to the finals. to me, weber could be that springboard again. and i believe weber is younger than when you guys got pronger? not a hundred percent offhand, but that makes it even better.
there definitely is no right/wrong answer with that much value involved on either side. i just think i would have. if you moved schenn/simmonds. you still have giroux/voracek/couturier to be your forward studs. weber is as advertised. top 5 dman in the league. not only does he bring himself, but he enables everyone else to take a step back. coburn can be an awesome second pairing guy instead of being counted on as the main guy. the entire d improves. - stayinthefnnet
I would probably pull the trigger on that deal, but I'd negotiate hard to try and sweeten the deal.
You have to understand that this team's biggest problem has been trading away young players or prospects or picks. It worked out ok in the old days when the Flyers could buy their way out of trouble. (They still could with Briere and Bryz). In the current NHL, with a salary cap, it's all about keeping the prospects coming. You need young guys to consistently come in each year. They contribute while costing very little. |

i understand. im typically inclined to agree. but in this scenario, weber IS that superstar. he's still young enough to give id say at least 5 more solid stud years minimum. - stayinthefnnet
I feel like Weber is the kind of player who would be a good dman into his late 30s. |

Kinda need Henrik to remember how to play hockey and Bobs to let in a few goals. Stupid addicting daily fantasy hockey leagues... 2$ a game is gonna drain me if I don't get lucky! |

Bit of a little battle at the end of the 2nd former Flyers pick Sullentrop got hit in the face from the stick of top draft prospect Sam Bennett |

Most great defenseman can. Hell, Lidstrom could still win a Norris if he played. |

oh i totally understand. values going the other way for sure. in todays nhl, those contributors on entry level or next deals are gold. but theyre sending back the main carat. i realize the level of speculation here, but the addition of weber to the flyers makes them a legitimate threat, and they likely wouldve remained such for at least 4 or 5 years. first rounders are still first rounders, and i know other teams have thought this before, but they arent likely to be in the top 12 or so . |
