Caps going up a lot and we have some contracts coming off the books. YOu're right, acquiring Buff is a bad idea. - JAKEw1234
Guys like Giroux, Read and Couturier will all have increased salaries. Giroux's will increase by $5M |

Yeah, who needs an elite offensive defenseman who is outstanding in the transition game? We have Nick Grossmann and all his blocked shots. |

until this season, that is the exact word i would have used. - stayinthefnnet
He seems to be inconsistent for long stretches. He has stretches where he's really good then stretches where he's not so good. Similar to Hartnell. He's probably a little better than Hartnell though. |

An NHL.com writer had Niskanen as a Norris candidate this week - JAKEw1234
while i certainly wouldnt go in that ballpark, he has had a great year. solid positional defense, good puck moving, good shot from the point on the powerplay. able to consistently feed the forwards without getting beat. whereas before he pretty much played bottom minutes, with the injuries this year he was pretty much a veritable anchor for a good stretch of games. if anything, he only raised his level of play with the added pressure.
hed be a good add for almost any team, and a likely top 4/PP guy on most. that being said, i wouldnt say hes a number one guy. but i do see him as being this years matt carle, contract included. |

No, his idiot coach is using him at forward. He's still a very good offensive defenseman. Idiot have used guns to open beer cans...doesn't make a Smith & Wesson a can opener. |

I'm surprised he only skated one shift. They were only down by 2 goals for much of the third.
I can understand him being tired. Lots of travel, hockey and stress over the last few weeks. |

Over the past 4 seasons, Byfuglien has a higher PPG average than JvR, Lecavalier, Mike Richards, Paul Stastny, Blake Wheeler, Evander Kane, Jake Voracek, Derek Steppan & Chris Stewart, to name a few.
He's a very good puck mover and passer, and skates quite well for his size. He does have warts, but he'd easily fill the Flyers biggest need. |

Looked very tired all game, not sure that is why he sat. The broadcast crew got no reason why he played just 1 shift. |

i feel like i must be undervaluing his ability to skate the puck out of the zone. he never struck me as anything quicker than a glacier. and defensively awful. |

Not really, just wondering why people don't feel Byfuglien would be a very good addition to the Flyers.
It reminds me of Jay Bouwmeester. When he was a Flame, most people on this board wouldn't have touched him for anything. He goes to St Louis and people are saying he'd be a great fit.
Byfuglien's strengths are exactly what the Flyers lack on the blueline. |

well to be fair niskys career was pretty well sputtering at that moment. but it also shows the value of puck moving guys around the league for goligoski. shero hoards them |

He has struggled in his own end. But he's very good in transition. He's also elite among defensemen in terms of producing points.
He definitely has warts to his game, and he's not my top choice...but some people here treat him like he's a leper. |

but see i dont know. i always saw a good deal of value in bouwmeesters game. just thought he was a little overpaid and that the return flames fans expected was delusional. |

Probably not feeling great after the WJC. I'm sure he took his lumps from captaining an underachieving team. I didn't think he was at fault for their poor play. I think Sutter did a poor job. |

i still think laughton is going to be a very solid NHLer. not a point producing stud, but thats not what he is designed for. there may be some potential overlap between couturier and him though. |

Last year's TDL wasn't Sheros best moment, but you're right, puck moving dman are invaluable. Guys like Maata and Depres are highly coveted. |
