I'm pretty sure I've mentioned to you before that my son wants to be architect. My question being this, is the education more important or the school ?

My son is considering Conestoga as they have a well respected well established program, but it would be expensive for him. Laurentian in Sudbury is just starting their program so I'm assuming smaller class size and up to date programming etc.

Your thoughts ?

Depends... Looking to join large firm or branch out with his own business?

I haven't checked into the post secondary logistics of the job market in a decade lol.

What I would do is look to see what kind of job offers are available right now in the field... If it's flush and in high demand a lesser know program will suffice.. However if the market is tight coming from a well respected school will help.

Always a bit of a roll of the dice. One thing is certain... If he graduates out of a respected program near the top of his class finding a job will not be difficult.

But still... The main thing is who will he be competing against for employment and what will their credentials be?

Tell him to come study in Quebec, it's cheap and you can learn French. Plus we don't give a (frank) if you study here and GTFO after your degree...we just pay the bills.

He's considering a firm to get himself established and some experience under this belt, from there who knows.

Either way it sounds like Conestoga may be his best bet. He'd be further away from us but he's never been shy about working his way through to get what he wants. He's worked since he was 15 and he's socked away almost 10k for school. I know that won't get him too far and he realizes he'll have to continue to work while in school but if he was closer we could help him out a little easier.

In the end what's important is that he becomes competent at what he does. He just has to be in an environment that will help him achieve that.
