Come on, Marty. Are you seriously defending Therrien in all of this? It's more than just TOI; it's the timing of the benchings, the way he talks about PK in public, the way he plays favorites. He's a terrible coach.
- razr

M'eh.

Bergevin is also very careful about how he describes PK, because Subban is in a contract year, it's not the time for a GM/coach to praise him night in night out. Subban has a great agent and he will use everything he can to garner more of Molson's money.

Most of the time they label him as a 'good young player'. I doubt we'll hear it from Therrien nor Bergevin that PK is the best Habs D, even though when it will be time to pay the numbers won't lie.

He also coached Pacioretty, Price, and Subban in Hamilton. To great success.

as a collective, yes. anyway i don't think it matters. no benching, pulling the goalie... would not have made a difference last night.
- DoubleDown

Exactly.

So if you're the coach, you do what? Try to send a message or pretend it'S just a bad game in the system and do nothing about it?

So all of this season - and all of next season - thats a long time to endure

I'm thinking 15 games into next season at the earliest unless they miss playoffs or get shelled...again.

And then what?

You fire the coach, hire a new one and the cycle continues?

This lineup isn't good enough. It's not the coaches. It's the (frank)ing players.

I'm not defending therrien as much as I tend to lay blame on the players for their counter performance. They didn't show up, they played like pussies yet, all you hear this morning is how Subban is mistreated by the coach.

Last night, Subban was part of the problem, not part the solution. Benched or not, there was no way they were winning that game.

- Pecafan Fan

was a stupid penalty. and Subban by no means had a great game, but at least he was involved in the game and tried to make things happen. i don't blame him for being frustrated when the rest of the team doesn't want to get involved because it's too hard and the Flyers aren't just granting un-accosted access into their zone.

Can you explain how their worst has only been 500?

Did they not start November with a 2-6 record?

I would think that is their worst, so far

- 2gals1dane

outside of a streak that saw them win 19 of 20 points, they were .500 before that, they've been .500 since.

As much as I think we could avoid another RandyGate with MB in charge - I believe recent history would repeat itself

This organization will never hire another non-french speaking head coach. Ever.

wouldn't count on Therrien going anywhere for another year at the absolute minimum.
- DoubleDown

I don't know about that, but a mid-season firing with the restrictions they have for selecting a coach is an impossible reality.

I think if you're the coach, you try with all your means, to win the god damn hockey game.

Not pout like a (frank)ing 2 year old.

Period.

I don't blame Subban either.

But by all means, people need to stop thinking that all that is wrong with this team is standing behind the bench. This is beyond ridiculous.

So cuz he is in a contract year, it is time to treat him like second rate player?
That is exactly how you runa player out of town as soon as he can leave, and he will want more money to stay when he can't leave.

No wonder players don't want to play in Montreal or take a "home town discount" when managment has to manipulate them in order to save a few bucks.

I call BS on all of this. Not because I don't think what you're saying is true, because it very well could be, but because this is a textbook example of how to mismanage a superstar player. And make no mistake, PK is a superstar; the first one we've had in 20 years. MB and MT can employ all the tactics they want, but fat lot of good they'll do if they wind up causing Subban to take the team to arbitration and sign a long-term deal with another team the next year. Because I promise you that that would cost Molson a hell of a lot more money in the long run than whatever Subban AAV winds up being.

I think you guys know, if you ever read my stuff, that I've never laid it all on Therrien. I lobbied for him to win the Jack Adams award for most of last season.

You don't have to be paid to analyze hockey to see what's happening between him and his players right now.

Not arguing with that either, all I'm saying its going to be be early next season IMO before he is even considered being fired.

that's a first, or wait, this is actually a backhanded complement, it is so easy to see what is happening that even the peons can see it. Good call

Hope the bum gets fired soon......Didn't like the signing to begin with.
Only reason they are where they are is Carey Price has kept them in almost every game. Therien is out coached almost on a nightly basis even in games they manage to win.

Subban hates Therrien and wants to leave, all over again.

How did that become the go-to whining when the habs are in a tough stretch?

I don't see anything wrong with not pulling the goalie. The message to me was if you want a chance in the last minute maybe you should play for the first 59.
- golfingsince

Isn't Price also nursing a slight groin injury? Why pull Budaj.....it's not as if he's a goal scorer.
