At the time of the team selection, Giroux was the leading Canadian born scorer in the NHL over the past three years. He's been passed since by John Tavares, who has a 1 point edge.

Giroux is also third in PPG among Canadian born players over that time span, behind Crosby and Stamkos.

Finally, since the 2010 Olympics, Giroux is third in scoring among Canadian forwards, behind only Stamkos & Marty St Louis.

Taking him should have been a no brainer.

I don't care, especially, because I don't really care about the Olympics. However, it's obvious Giroux wanted to go pretty badly, so I'm disappointed for him.

Those stats while being very impressive dont illustrate how "limp" hes looked for a bulk of the season. I domt criticize the guy to be a Richard but he had me and a lot of people worried with his passive play. And its likely that the selection committe noticed this too. Stats are nice but they dont always win games. Teams amd team dynamics win games/ championships.

Also - can we please stop booing PK Subban? Are we still mad at something he did to Mike Richards or something? Geez, let it go. Richards doesn't even play here anymore.

I agree. It's really lame.

The more I see from Giroux as the season goes on the more I buy the injury excuse. There's a lot of pushing/strength needed in those trench areas to be successful. The wrist thing could have effected more than just puck play (ie passing, shooting, face-offs).

It was a finger injury, not a wrist injury.

Thanks for the correction. I remember all the initial reports of wrist, but was corrected later as just a finger.

Well maybe I have no good point then. Something has changed in his game though. Maybe just between the ears.

He's trying to send a message to his team, problem is he might have already lost them.

I hate that assumption... it's overused and is usually just thrown in there in the absence of any real understanding of what's really going on in the situation.

Therrien's a tough/demanding coach, and he's never been shy about making examples of people. Apparently, he's found a way to put an entire team that sucked on notice.

Chalk it up to fans finding ways to entertain themselves... at the United Center, the crowd favorite chant is "Red Wings Suck!", even when they're not playing the Wings, and even after realignment.

Just one more reason to dislike Crosby. He probably lobbied against or flat out vetoed Gs spot on the Olympic roster.

All these terrorist attacks in close proximity to the Olympic venue is kind of scary.

I'm thinking this is a one-time thing, to send a message in a dire situation. It's like coaches who bench their best players in game-on-the-line situations... yeah, it could backfire, but the season is 82-games long... yelling and screaming gets old fast.

Well I'm not an nhl head coach but if I was and wanted to keep my job I wouldn't start a war with my star defenseman who could walk away in two seasons. I thought that not pulling the goalie and calling out the team was a good move, sitting pernell for half a period not so much.

I chanted 1940 at rangers games after 94. Heck I did it when the phantoms were playing the rags ahl team.

LOL. You really think Canada called Crosby to ask who he'd like to have on the team?

Its lame to boo an opposing player. LoL PK is a perfect guy to boo, he is a solid player who is flamboyant. He deserves to get booed.

I doubt Crosby was called.

I don't doubt that Kunitz was selected so that Team Canada has a happy Sidney Crosby in Sochi.

I don't blame Crosby for that.

You don't think star players have input into personnel decisions?

I don't think he had input. I understand taking Kunitz. Look at the top 3 centers. They all have their trigger men. Crosby-Kunitz, Getzlaf-Perry, Toews-Sharp. I'm more annoyed that they took Carter and Nash over Giroux. Especially when you consider their lack of good penalty killers.

I don't understand how a coach could have lost a team that is one of the best in the conference. The Canadiens have overachieved IMO. Their roster has some serious flaws.

Team Canada must think they need size on the wing is important or I don't think they take Nash or Carter.

And I do get the decision to take Kunitz. I just don't like it or agree with it.

For the Olympic roster I doubt crosby had anything to do with leaving g off other than lobbying for kunitz. But stars, especially elite level like crosby do have input into personnel.
