Also, I think part of it is what I call the "soccer mom mentality." That's where soccer moms go out of their way to find a problem with everything, argue for off-the-wall causes (remove "oral sex" from the dictionary because it hurts our children), argue about putting up a shed 2 blocks away that won't impact them, etc.) and I'm sick of it. So I guess I'm just fed up with people arguing over things that are, at least from my point of view, no really hurting anyone.

To be fair, you're the one who originally went and found an off-the-wall shed to complain about here.

More hockey talk, less racism/political talk please and thank you. I'm getting complaints but i'd really prefer not to ban any of you, but I will.

I'll get you started, I hate the Pens because....

Have fun.

- canadianpenfan

I don't hate Pens. I don't think many do. The Rangers and Devils, yes. I think most people just hate Crosby and Malkin. If they weren't on the Penguins, they'd just be the Islanders.

Fair enough.

Look, if a team came out and wanted to start the New Jersey Indians and had a picture of a white guy whipping a slave line of Native Americans, then yes, I have a problem with it. But a smiling guy with bright skin and a feather in his head is not offensive in any way shape or form, as I see the situation.

- jmatchett383

I doubt you really would but it's nice to see you have a line you can define for yourself.

I'm always amazed that people can say "Hey, I'm a horrible person, I don't care about anyone but me and my own and I'm okay with that."

I hear it all the time in life and in the media like it's some source of pride.

You actually said that point I couldn't make.

Also, the true atrocity is forgetting the fact those people exist.

So you don't think, as a native american- people with slightly larger noses and skin of an ever so slightly red tint (and stereotypically thought of as "red" skin), seeing a logo of a team called the Indians- a man with fire engine red skin, a HUGE nose, and a feather on his head wouldn't offend anyone? That's not an offensive portrayal of those people?

the PC crowd likes to ruin everything for everyone
I never thought about those names being racist until the PC people brought it up. The PC people are the true racists because they keep the idea of racism alive.

Hey guys, I've been away from Internet access the last week.
What are the injury updates?
Read is day to day with a concussion I read in Bill's blog.

Is Gusty ready to go yet?
Thanks.

Read's head is no longer working.

MAB can now view light, maybe.

So you're saying that you think the Cleveland Indians' name and logo were set up specifically to be derogatory towards and belittle Native Americans?
- jmatchett383

No, I'm just saying that present day personal feelings and positions can get amended in a hurry.

As for the Indians, I'm sure the brand was born out of ignorance, not malice. But the fact that it persists to this day, as a constant reminder of historical tensions, is pretty unforgivable. I went to college in northern Ohio in the late 90's and it was a hot-button topic back then... I'm just glad to see that the owners have continued to take steps to minimize Wahoo and that most Indians fans understand why the brand needs to evolve and are fine with change.

How did you survive? Were you locked in a trunk or something?

I'm curious about Read as well, and wouldn't be surprised if he's out for a while longer.

Good point.

I'll even go so far as to say I like Canada's national anthem better than the Star Spangled Banner.

That's very unpatriotic of you. Stop hating America.

People who boo either anthem (despite the make up of a team's roster) make no sense to me.

Not at all. I thought everyone was created equal until the PC people came along and said oh they're lesser than you, you shouldn't potentially offend them.
