It's so funny, yesterday it was Pens fans saying that Kunitz is a top 3 sniper in the NHL.

Today it's O'Reilly should be paid more than establish cup winners because he has potential of being a 60point defensive player.

What will it be tomorrow?

Good players make other players around them better.

Nobody on the Oil can do that right now. Make it tough to take him seriously. How many #1 picks in a row can that organization screw up?

- DutchCanSaveUs

I'm not sticking up for the oilers...they're the laughing stock of the NHL right before Winnipeg. In my opinion.

I'm not going to argue Hall with you when it's obvious the only games you've watched him in are the ones against the Avs...assuming you watch those games.

+/- is often argued to be more of a team stats than an individual stat. Saying he's -13 holds almost no weight when they have 1 player who's played more than 10 games that's in the +.

If you're using +/- to determine a players true defensive ability when they're on a garbage team, you're well on your way to losing a lot of arguments.

- Juice

It's his line. If his line is good they're not that bad in the +/-.

The rest of the team can go -250, doesn't mean superstar taylor needs to.

It's a telling fact that people can't play defense. Look at any other elite line in the NHL and almost all of them are a +.

Surprise? No, lol.

So how many years DOES IT TAKE before the wunder kids in Edmonton don't get defended because 'the team stinks bro!!!!'

Every year it' the same goddamn garbage from you people. Maybe there's a reason? MAYBE, they just do suck?

Ever think about that, hot shot?

Let's just totally ignore the fact he's only played 20 games this season.

Hall has 2 more than RoR (goals). RoR Isn't a goal scorer.

That's sad any way you look at it. ZOMG more assists. Big deal. Edmonton is all or nothing, no in between.

- DutchCanSaveUs

Perhaps, but Im not basing my opinion on a 40 game sample size where one team is playing well, and the other is awful.

ROR has nowhere near the offensive ability that Hall has.

Hall is a PPG+ player.

If ROR even puts up one season of PPG, ill dance a jig.

yes. we are. Definitely. Same style of player, Bergeron better, but RoR with a couple of years more development may very well be just as good.
- prock

Yup.

Difference is ROR hasn't been on the olympic team to have the average fan finally realize how awesome he is.

Funny thing is in 2010 when Bergeron was announced to team Canada everyone flipped out cause they had no idea how awesome he was...they just looked at his points and thought "WTF!!!???"

Pavel Datsyuk is -2....

This means Ryan O'Reilly is Greater than Datsyuk.....

I see where you're getting at. Keep going, this is good stuff

Easy there tough guy...settle down.

So the Oilers sucking is all Hall's fault?

So, it's just him and his line? Has nothing to do with the teams defense, and goaltending?

And he hasn't been that great this year. Just because he is gifted offensively does not automatically mean he's having a stellar year on the other side of the puck.

But i'm glad you believe that's the case. Oh, it's Pavs.. he HAS to be good defensively.. no way could he be having an off year. NOPE.

Using plus/minus to determine a players contributions on the defensive side is a dangerous stance to take. Its really only partially useful if comparing only to the rest of his team, and not the rest of the league.

Is Hall an elite defensive player, no, hes not.

Hes average defensively.

But what he lacks on defense, he more than makes up for on offense.

I'm gonna go out a 'limb' here and pretend Hall plays 1st line minutes with the top D pairing in Edmonton, yes?

So are we just saying all 5 of them suck suck suck?

Well, ok. Yeah we could say that. Ok I lose.. if this is where we all admit the Oilers are a joke and will never amount to anything, will blow this up and do the rebuild all over?

Because it's pretty obvious it's going to happen. They can't honestly believe MacT is the answer, and that giving Ference that contract was going to help.. get real.

We could all run that team better.

And that's my point. He's not a complete player. -13? That's more than just on bad goaltending and luck.

Do we get to say that when he's -26 or worse later in the year?

OHHHH, it's just the OILERS, pffffft. Get out.. it's getting old hearing year after YEAR AFTER YEAR how awesome these wunderkids are in Edmonton..

I have said all along they screwed up every pick they had save for Hall.

It's finally coming true.

ummm, 17 points in 20 games???????????? No, DD had not collected that many points. And again, Bozak does all the heavy lifting defensively on that line, which lets Kessel and JVR play their game. He's also excellent on the dot.

He could be upgraded on, no doubt. But he's no slouch either.

- prock

actualy DD has had 60 in 80, Bozak has never even broken 50. Pretty pathetic.

Youre just making the wrong stretches here.

Being on a bad team, doesnt make you a bad player.

Being on a bad defensive team, doesnt make you a bad defensive player.

Its really that simple.

Who cares if Hall isnt an amazing 2 way player. Hes an elite offensive player.

So you'd trade RoR for Hall?

Because I wouldn't. We already give up enough goals. F that.

So O'Reilly is elite defensively? Not just average?
I'm really trying to learn this +- stat. So last year when he finished -3, because Colorado was dreadful, he was average defensively, but this year he's above average because he's plus 3?

Yes, just what we need.. a guy who is on the ice for more goals against.

All we need to do is score more goals. Who cares about defense? Gonna win the cup with Guenin/Holden/Sarich and Barrie guys.

HOO AH !

I would, as should most of the league. Hall is elite, O'Reilly doesn't have his skills
