O'Reilly has been great in Colorado ... They can get more than gardiner if they wanted to move him
- Redmile247

I'm not seeing anything special about him. They should have let Calgary sign him

For a 1st and a 3rd?

That would've been terrible asset management.

Hes 4th on the team in points.
Tied for 2nd in goals
Zero penalty minutes in 42 games.
Significant leader in takeaways.

While playing outside his normal position.

You dont see anything special in a player who is as effective as he as at stealing the puck without getting penalties? and without sacrificing offense for it.

Hes really a puck possession kind of player.

Hes not really a physical player in the sense of hitting.

In fact he does very little body checking. Its all stick work. But he definitely doesnt shy away from any traffic areas, or board work.

Hes just such a disciplined player.

Why can't we just keep O'Reilly? It would solidify our top 6. We would have Stastny, Duchene, O'Reilly, McKinnon, Parenteau or Mcginn, Landeskog. Thats not a bad top 6 at all. We're never going to get the D-Man of our dreams in a trade unless we give up one of our untouchables.
- HarvP

you would be THRILLED to get a top pairing Dman for Stastny at this point, but I don't think you can.

I agree that you do keep RoR though.

It was a #6 overall pick. Are you serious?

Absolutely.

First of all, there was no knowing where the pick would end up. Secondly, he may have made the flames a better team if they were able to get him thus making the pick even worse.

And finally, there was no reason to assume the player picked at 6th would even turn out better than him.

Theres this fascination with 1st rounders always seemingly being more valuable.
ROR was 21 years old at the time, improving every year. There was zero incentive to trade him away and then re-start developing a new player in the hopes that he turns out better.

A bottom feeder getting a 6th overall pick and a 3rd rounder is not a good deal for ROR?

Yes there was. this wasn't a Kessel situation. This occurred during the season when Calgary was already freefalling in the standings.

Why are ALL Leaf fans so ridiculously uninformed?

Good lord.

It's like you don't watch hockey outside of that little bubble you call home.

What Im saying is we had no idea where the pick was at the time of the offer sheet.

We had an idea. But one small hot streak couldve pushed the pick to 8 or 9.

If the 2009 draft were to be re-done, ROR wouldve gone in the top 10.

Why bother having to redo all of the development of a new player, when we already knew what he had in OReilly.

What's that site? The one where they re-did all the recent drafts and RoR would have gone top 2 or 3?

Lol.. Leaf fans are pointless to argue with. You know they don't watch anyone outside of TO and all their players are all stars.

LOL. This from an Avs fan. Your fanbase abandons the team anytime they take a dip in the standings.
