I agree. This team's performance comes down to inconsistent work ethic and character.
This is, by and large, the same team to finish 5th in the East last year. This is a team that can beat the poop out of the Blackhawks, then lose to the Sabres. - Leeman4Gilmour
last year was a fluke in a shortened season... |

Corsi and fenwick was right about the Leafs - Fruitcakenipple
Except that our record when being badly out shot isn't much different than when shots are close (or when we're leading that category).
If Corsi were right, we would have won tonight. |

Yes they are bad...Been that way for 2+ months...The lucky start the only reason they not bottom 5... - Fruitcakenipple
I'm not going to argue, they don't deserve to have their fans stick up for them. I'm just saying I don't believe they're doomed. If they can find whatever x-factor they had last season, I think they can still be competitive. |

Nope.
Nothing to do with corsi. Leafs giving up less shots than previous, giving up more goals. That's not corsi. They are giving up more scoring chances (with less shots allowed) that's everything corsi isn't. |

Short season or not, last year's record through 48 will be better than this year's.
It was a markedly better team in almost all areas of the game. |

Much more agressive. Much harder work ethic. |

I'm not upset with the defence, it will still be the best in the tournament. On paper.[/img] |

I don't think there is any doubt to that. And if Hamhuis and Vlasic are the extras, it is a no brainer. |

Letang being left off was weird, especially for the big ice.
If the were going to take one of Sidney's BFFs, Letang would be preferable to Coattail Kunitz. |

Canada has enough scoring upfront. Big ice or not, that defense will be tough to beat.
Edit: Not that the ones on the team can't score enough as well. |

My guess: Vlasic is the scratch, Subban will pretty much just play on the PP, and the others are regulars. |

His line was the only line doing anything tonight. Scoring wise and pressure. First line disappeared |

probably not far off.... the question now becomes whether Nonis has enough leash to let them fall further behind the top teams OR whether Mr Hollywood wants to let him fail sufficiently so as to bring in his own guy.
what I don't get is how and why they seem to have gotten so far removed from last season's worth ethic and the physicality aspect. Yes I understand that Fraser hasn't been in the line-up and that he would add a component of that... but the fighters don't get into the game at anything approaching the same amount of significant minutes, and generally the urgency isn't there.
Now it didn't seem to be the case that the room was or is divided based on the 24/7 film footage... but you do have to wonder if there's a rift in the room of some kind...
the "personality" change just seems to drastic. - BorjeFan4Ever
I believe the message the club sent to the players went straight through the goaltending. Even if you prove your worth your just another expendable asset. Ottawa felt the same fate after Emery went to the finals, got injured and they sat him down when healthy for Gerber. The team simply played like crap after that. Muckler payed the price - who knows wether it was his decision or Murray's, but when players see other players treated poorly, it takes the emotion away for them, becomes more of a job.

It's true. It's way to common now seems like every other day you hear about someone diagnosed with it or know someone family member that has it. |

in the sense that they are a poor possession team they've always been right. the idea that you can't win games with a poopr corsi rating has always been incorrect though.
difference is their pk sucks this year and they are even worse with puck possession this year. |
