im convinced Girardi will be the Weiss/Clarkson/Clowe of this summers UFA class.
- Jurco_28

That could very well happen. I would rather they make a trade for D if possible. Doesn't have to be for Girardi.

A Burke team made the dance last year.

Year one of the Nonis era begins now. It hasn't gone well.

- Leeman4Gilmour

I'm certainly not a Burke hater by any means... but I don't believe the team with Burke last year makes the playoffs... based on one thing and one thing only.

No way Burke buries Connolly and Komisarek in the manner in which Nonis did. Burke to faithful to his own legacy to do that. With those two boat anchors around.. no way the team makes the playoffs.

They called upon him 24 times tonight.

You can absolutely point your finger, Randy.

How many shots is acceptable? 20? 15? 6 like the trap era Devils?

Yeah I'm pointing them at you starting him dumb ass and not pulling him at some point tonight.

probably not far off.... the question now becomes whether Nonis has enough leash to let them fall further behind the top teams OR whether Mr Hollywood wants to let him fail sufficiently so as to bring in his own guy.

what I don't get is how and why they seem to have gotten so far removed from last season's worth ethic and the physicality aspect. Yes I understand that Fraser hasn't been in the line-up and that he would add a component of that... but the fighters don't get into the game at anything approaching the same amount of significant minutes, and generally the urgency isn't there.

Now it didn't seem to be the case that the room was or is divided based on the 24/7 film footage... but you do have to wonder if there's a rift in the room of some kind...

the "personality" change just seems to drastic.

- BorjeFan4Ever

Didn't Nonis get signed to an extension? (wouldn't prevent him from getting fired) But yeah, the whole team seems softer to play against.

Burke as a GM isn'tas good as say, Burke as an assistant or what he's doing in Calgary. Give him the power to play to his strengths in trades and representing a franchise.

Meanwhile, you have a GM sharing the spotlight, taking lead roles in drafting and FA's.

I think Calgary is looking much better for a solid future than in the past.

The finger should be pointed at Carlyle for being inconsistent with his handling of the goaltenders. No way anyone can tell me Carlyle lets Reimer continue if he gives up those two first goals.

Fingers aimed at Mr Carlyle... not Mr Bernier.

He's talking about how many time they have relied on Bernier for the win...Bernier has bailed them out a number of times ..Most if not all win this year has been because of goaltending..It's a bad fk'n team

Goaltender has to stand on his head to get win...Both goaltender have had bad games but both the only reason why still in playoff spot

no he really wasn't ... just more impatient - which can at times be good.

but really none of Burke's FA signings panned out... he got lucky dealing Beauchemin back to Anaheim - otherwise his FAs were all overpriced or just crap.

his trades on the other hand were largely fantastic.... he's hoping Nonis has the balls to shake things up... you'd think he has to if this continues.

Holmgren is an honorary Leafs GM for that JVR trade alone.

Bernier got lit up last game, Reimer shoulda been in this one. Too many bad goals.
Shoulda been 3-2 leafs. I still cant stop watching that 4-2 goal that was the dagger...and of course it was the game winner

goaltenders have to be help accountable as well, that is two miserable games in a row for Bernier. Last game we had no chance, but this a game we should have won, or at the very least got a point.

and watch now as the idiot Leaf media comes up with a quote from James Reimer indicating his upset or disastisfaction or similar to stir things up even more.....

I hope to god that the "going back to Bernier" even when he's had some questionable outings isn't to do with the "look" that Reimer gave Carlyle when he was pulled.

I agree completely. But it is Carlyle's fault for putting him in there - not recognizing the slide in performance.

I think the Isles scored 4 goals on 2 or 3 scoring chances. That's gotta be a first.

I don't believe they're as bad as they've been. This team was so exciting last year, and the majority of those exciting players are still a part of the team. I wasn't worried about any game last season, they played with such intensity I thought they could beat any team on any given night.

That being said, this is a lottery team if they don't wake up. One good effort a week is not good enough.

I agree. This team's performance comes down to inconsistent work ethic and character.

This is, by and large, the same team to finish 5th in the East last year. This is a team that can beat the poop out of the Blackhawks, then lose to the Sabres.
