and the point i was trying to make is this fanbase is never happy, and always looking to trade, fire, demote, etc.
other fanbases seem to enjoy small tweaks, and we want total revamps....
....even when we are winning - IRON.MAIDEN
That's the nature of the beast called the TML. It's a fanbase that demands success but has had very little. Could be worse, could be complacent. |

Oh...I was there with one of my sales guys and he said "Lets play a round of golf...18 bars one drink per bar and back to the hotel by 1am". Tee off was 6pm - we didn't make the 18 and had an 8am meeting next day. |

People need to realize that the Hockey Canada braintrust put a lot of value in international experience when making these choices.
You don't have to agree with it, but let's stop wondering why guys were selected. It's not like Yzerman and the boys just picked names out of a hat.
Or better yet, somebody earlier suggested that Carter was picked because they felt bad he was only an alternate last time.
Yeah, that's how it works. - Atomic Wedgie
agreed on all fronts.
they looked at the type of hockey that was going to be played.. weighed that with international experience and its not too hard to see why they made the choices they made |

That was me. And no I didn't say it like that. But as you say they value past international experience and loyalty and they liked that Carter was a loyal soldier last time around. Not that it got him on the team but it was one factor. Just like Nash at the last Olympics was a big factor that got him on this team. These things DO play into it. |

The overall trend I've noticed (and become completely frustrated by) is that Leafs Nation hates their best players, but falls in love with the worst player on the team, as long as the guy looks like he is putting forth effort.
Kessel sucks. Yeah, OK.
Komarov was the most valuable player on the team last year.
We should have let Phaneuf walk at the end of this season. Gotcha. I was at the game on Saturday night, and let me tell you, boys and girls, the Leafs defence outside of Dion is terrible. Absolutely terrible.
Brad Smith? Love him.
Sundin? Gutless.
Franson? The next Bobby Orr.
I could go on all day... |

Here's what I will agree to:
Showing loyalty and being a good soldier will not get you on the team.
But not showing loyalty and questioning Team Canada brass can get you left off the team. |

But what if the criticism is unfair?
This is the problem.
Canadian fans (from all seven teams) seem to think that if a guy makes $5 million a year, you can scream whatever you want at him. And that you need to prove your hockey smarts by manufacturing flaws in the game of your biggest stars.
And then we wonder why Nash signs in New York and Getzlaf re-ups in California. |

the problem i have with this is just because phaneuf looks great in comparison to an otherwise terrible D doesnt necessarily make him a great d-man
its flawed logic
its like saying a grand prix is a high end sports car when its parked beside a bunch of dodge neons.
just because the d corps around him are so bloody bad it makes him look that much better doesnt mean he is actually that much better. |

Another typical Canadian trait - resent those who are more successful than you.
He makes $5 million - you have a right to scream garbage at him?
Hey, go for it - just don't be surprised when yet another UFA decides to turn down a Leafs contract. |

But couldn't it be that our defense and forwards make phaneuf look worse then has is because his partner isn't good enough to face top lines and the forwards don't know what the defensive side of the ice looks like. |
