Phaneuf haters will never give him credit. Guy is a great defenseman and plays against the best every night. And all this he always gets beat to the outside is a bunch of crap IMO. He shuts the door on many who try to bear him out there, and if he knows he's gunna get beat he at least pushes the opposition so far outside they take a poor quality shot. Might not be top 6 defenseman in Canada but definitely top 12 which makes him around 15th overall in the league.

We need dmen as it is and if we let him go it may affect the organization more than we think. Bolland may not resign. Bernier may get pissed and on and on.it had to be done

So basically you use whatever stats are convenient and disregard or give less credit to ones that go against your point. High qoc, but terrible corsi. High plus minus, but terrible on the pk. But the terrible stats are due to the team while the good stats are due to dion himself? Do you forget dion's lockdown defense in the final 10 minutes of game 7?

And I think everyone has responded with, if the guys ranked ahead of him would've all been going into UFA next season their contracts would reflect where they rate. I put Phaneuf right outside of the top 10. Would rather him over Vlasic,Jbo, and Hamuis. Everyone has their opinions but as long as you say that he's top 20 then that indicates he is a number 1 Dman in the NHL.

Yeah, that's the issue. Franson is shockingly shockingly shockingly bad at being a dman. If we sign him to a large contract we are proper (frank)ed.
