Sure, why not.

Well, because his positioning is terrible, his attention to defensive awareness is awful, he doesn't use his stick effectively, and he is generally awful without the puck.

But yeah, all players can be high-level PKers if they skate hard. Ian Lapperiere was only a good PKer because would skate hard. Same for Podein, Otto, and Bergeron.

Rick Nash (9 goals, 9 assists, 18 points in 27 games) made team over Giroux (12 goals,26 assists, 38 points in 42 games).

Goaltenders: Roberto Luongo, Carey Price, Mike Smith

Defence: Jay Bouwmeester, Drew Doughty, Dan Hamhuis, Duncan Keith, Alex Pietrangelo, PK Subban, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Shea Weber

Forwards: Jamie Benn, Patrice Bergeron, Jeff Carter, Sidney Crosby, Matt Duchene, Ryan Getzlaf, Chris Kunitz, Patrick Marleau, Rick Nash, Corey Perry, Patrick Sharp, Steven Stamkos, John Tavares, Jonathan Toews

- Tomahawk

I would replace Weber with L. Schenn, and Sharp with M. Ellison.

When it came down to the end, they clearly felt they needed to load up with more speed and shooting.

His 6 points in 13 Olympic games made him a lock.

I did not see P Bergeron in the hotstove blog that lists the roster, unless they forgot to include him

I guess it was his leadership, defensive responsibility and clutch performances. Oh, and the evidence he has on Yzerman committing multiple crimes.

Giroux will come out like a man possessed tonight after being snubbed by Team Canada.

Or the opposite. He said he wouldn't be able to sleep the night before rosters were announced. I bet he's already started sipping a cocktail

I doubt it's going to be much of an Achilles heel... virtually any forward willing to bust their @ss can kill penalties at a high level.
- Tomahawk

That hasn't worked for Rinaldo who can skate much better than Couturier can but is a much worse penalty killer.

I dont think Giroux is that big of a snub. No way he makes it as my center over Getzlaf, Crosby, Tavares, or P Bergeron on my 4th line. They want size/speed on the wing. So be it.

Seabrook should be on the roster

Somebody should give him a hug and let him have a good long cry.

Then remind him the Flyers are paying him millions to play hockey and he needs to stop being a nancy.

Rino is likely the fastest skater on the team... It's a shame the PK experiment apparently hasn't worked out.

It's not about skating fast, it's about working tirelessly to cover your 1/4 of the ice and being willing to put your body in lanes. People act as if it's some preternatural skill... for forwards, PK is 90% hard work, 10% common sense. That's why you see guys like Derek Dorsett, BJ Crombeen, Matt Martin, Eric Nystrom and a sea of plugs do the job adequately/well.

You'd rather have Nash and carter on RW over Giroux?

If I'm Stevie Y, maybe I'd be a little nicer to Marty St. Louis, who possesses much of what you mentioned.

Seriously, do you not think it is an honor to get recognized and play for your Country in the Olympics? It would have been great for Giroux to experience that, would make him a better player I think

That's not true. There is a skill to it. You need anticipation and an understanding of when to pressure the puck and when to sit back. Positioning is so important. It's not all about blocking shots and sacrificing. You need to know how to get into position to blocks shots.

Think about it, if you're bread and butter is your NHL team, which it is for every one of these guys, wouldn't you want one of your best players at home and resting up for the upcoming playoff run as opposed to over in Russia play for medals?

Maybe St. Louis didn't want to go knowing his career is coming to an end and his shots at the post-season are limited in number.

He was originally a winger though. And some centers (Stamkos) will be playing wing. Would you take him over Marleau, Carter, Nash, and/or Kunitz?

No. I would want Giroux playing. They've done studies and there is no correlation between players playing in the olympics and their team's success. The last olympics had the blackhawks win the Cup. Hossa, Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook all played in the olympics. Pronger, Timo, Richards all played as well. They all managed to play well throughout the season and playoffs.

Yes, there is no skill required, you're right. Just working hard.
It's amazing Rinaldo didn't make team Canada due to his other-worldly caliber PK abilities since he skates hard.
