Regarding that debate, who you listen to is critical.

I just think about how long it took before it was declared cigarettes were harmful to one's health, and that was, quite literally, with a mountain of bodies on the 'cigarettes are bad' side. And Tobacco is small, a veritable cottage industry, compared to Big Oil and Coal.

Certainly something to consider, as is the millions of years of documented warming and cooling cycles of the earth.

haha

honestly, the planet is the one thing i would say i sway pretty liberal on. and its not even like the whole global warming thing. i get it. it does make sense when you consider this planet has basically done its own thing for a long while as far as temperature goes. so i dont think we can necessarily point to data or graphs tracking temperature as tangible indicator.

but come on. if someone wants to say look it is what it is, the benefits to society for modernization outweigh the risks and all that, then fine. but to just totally be like nah, were not (frank)ing up the planet at all is ridiculous.

I'm pretty sure, short of a really big comet or asteroid, the earth has several billion years left circling the sun.

I, like Bryz, enjoy contemplating the Universe.

Why can't you be like the Ranger fans and have rock music discussions during hockey lulls?

i would definitely be inclined to agree, including your qualifier. but still, what the quality of life on the rock that is the earth amounts to over time remains to be seen. it could just naturally go through large scale periodical shifts in which it essentially reboots large portions of itself, and things like that may be totally out of our control.

that being said, we are nothing but detrimental to it as humans.

They're not bad once you get used to them. (That could be the Stockholm Syndrome talking, though.)
