To answer your question about Noebels, Germany didn't qualify.

I don't really have a problem with Kunitz. He and Crosby have such good chemistry it's easy to set them together. I just don't understand Nash or Carter over Giroux. Giroux's overall play should supersede the speed and shooting element that both of them will bring.
- PhillySportsGuy

I really don't like that Giroux was omitted, but I think that Nash may be on the team because he's been such a good soldier for Canada in the past. Carter is a weird pick to me.

I really hope that the fact that Giroux skipped the olympic famil due to injury did not weigh in on him not making it.

Good points.
Kunitz does have chemistry with Crosby and in a short tournament that can be very important, but there is NO way I would have Carter over Giroux.

- BiggE

yeah, i dont get it. the list of people id have put in over carter is a long one.

yeah, i think giroux's slow start was what hurt him. i'm honestly very surprised they left thornton off.
- stayinthefnnet

Essentially, they left him off the team because he had a bad stretch of 15 games and didn't go to their team-bonding, summer strokefest

Thornton has a history of coming up small in the playoffs and big pressure games, Giroux, though, usually excels in those types of situations. Again, having Carter or even Nash over G is just mind boggling.

Teams like Germany, Slovenia, Norway are cannon fodder anyway.

Did Nodl make the Austrian team?

All those years of losing allowed him to play in the IIHF

wouldnt shock me at all. i can definitely see hockey canada having that good ole boy mentality. thats a shame for them. not that i go out of my way to root for him, but giroux is a pleasure to watch. would have liked to see some of his awesome creativity on a big ice surface with all star players, and have it not lead to a flyers goal for a change haha

I don't see how a guy like Carter would benefit more from the open ice than Giroux. The puck travels faster than the player.

It only matters because goal differential is next for ranking after total pts.
Who is the worst of the worst will probably have the biggest impact on the overall standings going into the quarters. (Outside of the winner of each big group game ...ie russia vs usa, canada vs finland and sweden vs. czech republic)

He doesn't get fed the puck. He takes it from his blue line, steamrolls through the zone and fires a heavy wrister 7 feet high and 12 feet wide of the net.

He should. They have some nice players moving forward. Maata, Risto, Barkov, Granland. Goaltending is rock solid now
