I lived on Royal Ave. It was an ice mound with icy tire track. Tore the mufflers right off cars. Never was plowed. People not only carried shovels in their cars, but ice choppers too.

WHy Oh wy couldnt I work in a bank. Future mrs had a meeting leave home early today and tomorrow either work from home or take a snow day of pto. ME however will get docked time if I come in at 831 instead of 830. NObody has it easier that bankers and teachers on time off.

Salaried bank employees have it really easy! I will admit I worked as one for 3 plus years

I used to work in a bank. They can't be closed for too long, some sort of law dating back to the great depression I heard so people wouldn't get scared the bank was running away with their money. I think it was 3 straight days is the limit.

She gets as many "bankers" holidays as I get off for the whole year let alone the time on top of that. Seems like she almost gets a week off every month and a half.

Unless its a weather disaster or something along those lines. My branch was open but couldn't process any transactions since our security systems were down that was a great week

Huh? What did he bulldoze? The lower westside is intact.
- sippyd

What you know now as the lower west side is not the lower west side. Its only lower because its the lowest occupied section. I wish I could find the links that show the aerial view of the neighborhood he had torn down in '59, the the same aerial view in '69 showing an undeveloped wasteland. If you're into this stuff grab Mark Goldman's book 'City on the Edge'. Great stuff.

My better half is a manager at the Bank of America ( just taken over by M&T ) call center in Getzville . They make them come to work regardless of conditions . I told her if you see it getting bad, you are to get sick and head home.

Gotta love when your years of service add up? She got a great deal when they transfer her time at M&T to First Niagara.

Edit: our custom guy here cant use up all his pto cause your only allowed so many days off in a month. Been here since like 88 or 89.

Day 1 was 13 holidays and 25 days. Every 5 years you get another week, so I haven't been here too long.

My time typically gets used up due to kids being sick or going out of town to visit family, since everyone is so far away.

After 7 years, I've only for the last year been hanging over the 100+ hours banked mark...

*My last political comment I swear*

The elephant in the room with education and standardized testing is its a socio-economic issue. No one wants to say it but follow the money and so go the test scores. Look them up online, the scores follow the hierarchy if income in WNY. Your top scoring places are Orchard Park, Clarence, followed by Williamsville and humburg, below them is Ken-ton, Cheektowaga, West Seneca, and at the bottom is Lakawana and Buffalo. Like clockwork.

teachers are not allowed to teach, they now prepare kids for tests

our society will not all teachers to have the smart kids in one class, the stupid kids in one class and the average kids in the other 4 classes

the higher powers push the blame on the teachers instead of asking parents why their kids are 8 years old and can't read

people move to this country and refuse to learn our language

you can shove all the money at education and it will not make a damn bit of good as long as parents refuse to step up, and take some ownership

instead of being politically correct, accept the fact that the world needs ditch diggers as well

rant over

This this this! When i was in high school they made a switch over to Math A and Math B programs. When I was in the Math B program the teachers taught the test material that was sent. My teacher even said this does not seem familiar.

Turns out the wrong material was taught to every school. Something along the line of 93% of the state failed the Math B exam.

So even though my teacher questioned the material, she taught it because that is what was (supposedly) on the test.
