2012 1st rounder (#21) for Paul Gaustad, 2013 4th rounder (#99)

Nashville got Juuse Saros out of that trade. The Finnish stud goalie who just won the WJC. Basically Girgensons for Gaustad and Saros.... Pretty even trade now.

it wasnt at the time and you know it.

That whole Kane to Buffalo and Crosby to Habs and Parise to Wild so on and so forth.. there's no real point in discussing it. Yes, it COULD happen. Sure. Will it? Statistically not likely. But..Parise and Suter did it. I wouldn't discount it. In Patty Kane's case..hey..maybe..just maybe.. he says "hey, I want to jumpstart Buffalo's rebuild! Win a cup in my home town!" Obviously unlikely but I don't think he'd not join our team for the sole reason of Buffalo currently being bad.

95% that he extends in Chicago and never even gets to free agency

Is it possible Kane would want to sign here?
Yes (although it would help our chances if we weren't so crappy)

But FIRST...
He would have to decide for some reason that he wants to leave Chicago
A great city, and top team every year...

I appreciate the optimism,
But I don't see Kane leaving Chicago

Kane won't just up and come to Buffalo to finish his career. I don't care if he has 10 cups at that time. Buffalo needs to be a contender for him to do so. No player says, 'well I have 'x' number of cups, that's enough.' If they have 10, they want 11. Now if Buffalo has a chance at the time, I think there is a good argument for him to come to Buffalo.
As for being a NJ fan....sorry. I would hate to watch boring hockey every day. Trap is garbage to watch. Whenever we see a boring sporting event, we call it 'the NJ Devils.'
Columbus... well that's a whole different story. I won't even dip there. Surprised they even have a hockey team.

Thats why I said "pretty even trade NOW".... Everyone forgets Buffalo sent a 4th round pick along with Gaustad. That extra pick makes a difference. Its another shot in the dark for Nashville to hit on a mid round gem.... right now it appears they found it.

Dont forget Buffalo didnt draft Girgensons at the #21 pick they got from NASH. They had to trade up to get him at #14.

But thats not the deal. They got a 4th round pick too and appeared to have nailed it with a solid pick.....

lets wait until he even makes it to a pro team in north america before we name him to the HHOF.

4th rounders and later are throw-ins on trades. They mean virtually nothing in terms of making trades work.

Whos naming him to the HHOF? Why did Nashville even ask for a 4th round pick? Just a throw in? No. Gaustad alone wasnt worth the 1st round pick. Darcy doesnt give the 4th round pick, there is no "Gaustad for 1st" trade....
