Pat Kane is from Buffalo which is a hockey town. So there is a chance he could sign here. Columbus is not a hockey town, so you are right he will not be signing there.
- jerryl1964

Jackets have a Vezina winner, pretty good group of defensmen signed, and young forward group. Buffalo can try to overypay when the team is still struggling. I'll take the group of Horton, Johansen, Wennberg, Dano, Rychel, Murray etc.

Chicago>>>>Buffalo

Chicago has the city life, the money and the right poeple in charge of Hockey ops. Like I said Buffalo no chance.

He owns a house here.......Where do you think he lives in the off season? His parents and family live here. This is his hometown. Yeah, you are right, why would he want to sign with the team he dreamed about playing for when he was growing up? I would give it a 50/50 chance to sign with Buffalo, but still a 0.0 chance of signing in Columbus.

I live in reality, I've already stated that Kane isn't coming. But Kane is also a winner and he's not Leaving Chicago to go to a bottom feeding buffalo team.

Only time will tell. I am just hopeful the Sabres truly bottom out and build a Stanley Cup champ the way it is done now. Pick high. Do you really think the Leafs are ever going to win the cup? They missed the playoffs for 9 straight years, never got a high pick and now are signing Dion Phaneuf to a 49 million dollar contract. Phil Kessel? Really?
I will take the pain now and hope It works out. It could be a dream that Kane comes here, but if he does, the Sabres will be golden for 10 years. We now have an owner that will do anything to get him here. So you never know.

- jerryl1964

I hope you're still paying for tickets then if you're so willing to take the pain for now.

Take it from a hab fan, waiting for the home town boy to make a triumphant return is not a solid way to rebuild

So you Know for sure Pat will not come home ? You have been talking to him ? I am not a big fan of Kane but who are you to say what he will be doing . Your Money does go a long way in Buffalo . He is tight with his Dad . Who is to say what will happen . Nothing is etched in stone as you seem to believe.

FYI, when Crosby entered the league he admitted his dream was to play for the Habs, the team he grew up cheering for. I read somewhere that Ovechkin wanted to play for the leafs because it was such a huge hockey market.

Don't hold your breath.

Buffalo is terrible. Chicago is a winner. Chicago has a great blend of young depth talent along with the superstars. Buffalo has no GM a retred coach and and owner who has no idea what direction to go. Yeah why would he not want to go to Buffalo.

wtf is up with the spaces before periods?????

And as someone who moved to Buffalo from a place with "city life," once you get past the age of 25, you realize just how much further your money goes in Buffalo than anywhere else I've been this side of Eastern Europe or the Caribbean. You just have to let the players see that like the Bills did with Mario Williams.

I have been a season ticket holder for more than 10 years. I will keep them. Terry Pegula is worth 3 billion dollars and wants the cup. I don't think money will be the object. The Sabres do not have a budget anymore.

Why bash Pegula or Nolan? Nolan has turned the team to respectability since he arrived and all Pegula does is sign the checkbook and leave the management to do what they want. Bad choice with Regier who had money to play with for the first time and blew it. Nothing says it wont work with the right guys at the helm.

nice to see Im talking to a real fan

I've never said anything about money in any of my posts have I? All I'm saying is that banking on a definite maybe 2 seasons from now is not smart.

If and I think it is a big if that Kane hits the open market, Buffalo would have the best shot of signing him. For all the reasons Jerryl1964 said plus as far as the people in charge, take into account that Kane grew up watching Pat LaFontaine in a Sabres uniform...enough said. By the time Kane's contract is up he is very possibly going to have 1-2 more rings so what better way then to finish your career then with the team you grew up watching...ask Parise and Suter about that.

Short memory or awful young. Chicago sucked for a long time before they were relevant again. Again I could care less if Kane comes home.

Nashville is a budget team and couldn't keep Suter when they had to pay Weber and Rinne. Everybody spurns the devils. Everybody.

Check Chicago's record before Toews and Kane. They were just as bad as Buffalo. That is how you get better. Look at Rick Nash. It was his dream to play in Columbus and he left.

I think it is stupid to bank on the hometown boy coming home to get us our Stanley Cup . But fans can dream .I would rather have Toews or Sharp myself. Been to Columbus many times. Nothing to get cocky about being from there and being a fan of a team that has made the playoffs once .

every owner wants a cup, the sabres still have a cap maybe not internal but every team is governed by a salary cap so it doesnt matter how much he is worth

when you call your team hockey heaven and say you will win or at least challenge for a cup within 3 years of when he took over its probably time to put your money where your mouth is and show to be competitive rather than being the worst team in the league competing with the oilers for the #1 overall draft pick

so unless the sabres somehow are able to show that they are going to compete and make the playoffs before kane hits the market (if he does) then any real talk about him going "home" is just a daydream imo because typically players wont go "home" unless they are competing going from a team that they have won and can continue to win (unless they are getting close to retirement)

It's not a definite. But it is a possibility. My point was Buffalo is not a budget team and from what I hear, Pegula wouldn't have an issue paying Kane the max for the max. He could bring Toews too and pay him the max.........lol

As a devil fan, would you rather be in the Sabres shoes right now? Tell the truth. Just asking.
