I can understand that Vancouver would want to try something to make them a true contender, given their status an an over the hill team with 25 Mil tied up in heavily declining vets like Luongo, the Sedins, and Burrows (2 of which already junk that they couldn't get someone one to take if they tried), but they can't afford Gaborik. Gillis has screwed up their salary cap situation so badly they can't afford anyone to make them anything more than a borderline playoff team.

The leafs don't have the majority of their salary cap for many years tied up in 35 year olds.

Ignore it all you want. The vast majority of the core of your team is well over 30, with contracts ending in late 30s. And they werent good enough in their prime!
