I actually feel sorry for Horvat.....fan expectations for him, a 10th overall pick, is sky high. He basically needs to be Mario Lemieux after all the horseshi-I mean hype Canucks fans are spreading around - Jeropotato
He's been brutal at the WJC's..Brings absolutely nothing shouldn't have been on the team...... |

I don't really like the contract, but you wont replace Phaneuf on the open market with a better player or a better contract.
It's basically the going rate. |

Good Goalie, Solid Defense...Habs have a fair shot, why shouldn't they go for it? Or should they just lay down for the Pens and Bruins? - Jeropotato
They should not give up any prospects. Stay the course and wait for them to develop. Parlay Bourque, Eller, Gionta into something useful. Plekanec has value as well. |

I doubt Gabby goes for a tonne...maybe he does, who knows? But the point I'm making is aside from the Pens or Bruins-who are both beatable, who is really preventing the Habs from making a push? |

Eklund: Interest in Gaborik Increasing. - Eklund
Come on, get real. I can understand that Vancouver would want to try something to make them a true contender, given their status an an over the hill team with 25 Mil tied up in heavily declining vets like Luongo, the Sedins, and Burrows (2 of which already junk that they couldn't get someone one to take if they tried), but they can't afford Gaborik. Gillis has screwed up their salary cap situation so badly they can't afford anyone to make them anything more than a borderline playoff team. |

Disagree. Horvat was misused. He'll be a really good player for a long time.
Not quite what Van fans think, but whats new....Oh and Shink should have been a top 5 pick according to some of them.... |

No. Don't even try. The canucks remind me of the post lockout leafs with tens if millions tied up in declining crap. They're so screwed its hilarious. |

Well if they play like they did against Ottawa last year, then a lot of teams are preventing them. |

He's a mediocre junior player. Isn't really sticking out in the OHL as a post draft junior, invisible in the WJHC. Essentially a second rate prospect.

Nothing against the Leafs but a lot of long term contracts throughout this league will soon be despised by teams. Too many franchise player contracts are handed out to players that don't deserve them. |

Hey I never said they were unbeatable, nor do I think they have a clear shot, but they should beef up for a run. Sometimes 'next year' never comes. |

You don't think Girardi is gonna get mad money? What about PK's next deal? I think the 7x7 deals are the new 12 year front loaded contract. |

Also the way kids are being developed these days I think the stars will have a peak life of 4 to 5 years before they are past their prime and new stars emerge. |

Oh, no doubt, but I think that has little relevance to the market place. People seem to think Weber, for example, will be a top 10 D-Man for the rest of his career, when in reality, he's got maybe 5 years before younger players emerge and his talents diminish. But if he were on the open market he would get max term at 7mil easy. |

They are not good enough. Way too small for a long playoff drive and not enough talent. They are not close to being ready. |
