Not as good as Zadarov and Risto and they belong to us already . Time to get elite forwards.

Some have the opinion that there's really only 1 or no "elite forwards" in this draft. Personally I see about 3 Forwards that I'd say have a real shot at being 1st liners but the next gm may think otherwise. It wouldn't surprise me to see us trade down if Reinhart was already gone.

From what I read (red) last year during the draft . Darcy was a over looker. Devine did the calls . For and Assistant he has done pretty well.
Heard (herd ) the 2 years before too.

Devine runs the draft.

Look at Nashville

Weber
Suter
Josi
Jones

They have and have had all star caliber defensemen and where has that taken them? Without forwards you go nowhere

That is why I say Trade Ekblad if that is who is available at your pick .If People covet this guy we will get a great return . Buffalo fans have lots of D in the cupboard . We are pulling and Edmonton we draft another defense. Time to draft another position. I like this Dal Cole kid to

Nashville - great D no forwards.

Edmonton - Great forwards no D.

Results are basically the same

We definitely don't need Ekblad imo.

Ristolainen - Zadorov

Myers - McCabe

Pysyk - McNabb

???

If we pick 2nd and Reinhart is gone, we should either take Dal Colle or trade back and take Dal Colle or someone like Draisaitl or Bennett.

- Herzeleid

We'll be picking 4th or 5th.

This IS the Buffalo Sabres. Guaranteed they'll eff up picking in the top 2.

I have changed my mind. I didn't like it at first but am completely fine with it now
- sbroads24

It was a no brainier to me when he fell
There were some scouting reports I read that thought in the end he'd be better than Jones
I can't say I agree with that,
But I do feel he has the tools to be a physical, shutdown defenseman... And with decent offensive upside who can help our pp with that good hard shot
Definite 1st pair potential

Wow, what an idiot Darcy was not drafting a forward in the 1st round last year?
A LOT of ppl on here blasted him for those picks...
Any of u guys change your mind?

- jdfitz77

Looking at how Valeri Nichushkin is playing with ruff and the stars, and us having a shot at ekblad this year.....................mind hasnt changed.

Neither player is a center. We need a number 1 center more than anything.

We have some decent 2-3 center prospects in Larsson, Compher, and Hurley but they are a few years away with the exception of Larsson.

Yes but they and most of the draft picks are another 2-3 years away before they are all Grigs on us? Grigs is a rarity, do we have any others ?

Not following you here...Grigs or Girgensons? We all agree we need firepower up, but the argument with picking Ekblad is it allows them to use other D, or him as currency to pick up that highly skilled forward from a team that needs a shutdown D. It is a viable option...IMO, I'd rather they did that then reach for a forward based on need.

Depends on what you can get for one of them. If its just a pretty good winger it's not really going to help. It's it's someone like Tyler Seguin a young potential stud center then sure.

It's great to have a luxury like having a ton of young talented defensemen, but unless we get some serious talent up the middle, or Grigorenko and Hodgson both wake up and play to their potential, then we will remain a bad team

Yeah Ekblad was so dominating at the world Juniors - not . I am happy with our d corps . Eklblad can be traded for more assets. Defense does not dominate right away in the NHL. A elite forward can . Drafting Ekblad means turning back the timetable for another year.
- Maximum Signal

But the guys behind him aren't elite forwards.
We've already had this discussion,
But if they think Ekblad is going to be that much better than (Myers, Pysyk, whoever), then it's worth it to hang on to him & trade someone else...
Even if It does take him a few years to be dominant,
Isn't it worth it for the next decade or so?

Regardless,
I think we can both agree that u take the most talented guy...
And then use the surplus to trade for what u lack in other areas
