If Reinhart is gone at number one, and we pick 2nd overall.. do you try and trade down a few spots and pick up Dal Colle? Or do you take EKblad even though we just took Zads and Risto last draft? I think Dal Colle is going to be a stud, but I can't say I wouldn't love to add Ekblad to our group of young d. Ekblad is going to be a beast.

Honestly, as of right now I think as long as its is and Edmonton in the top 2 we are good. If that does happen, take Ekblad and trade Christian Ehrhoff.

I would hope if edmonton is number 1 they take Ekblad.. they have enough offensive talent. But given the struggles of Yaks lately, they may consider taking Reinhart, which would suck. I REALLY hope we get that kid.

If Ekblad is there, and Reinhart isn't, you have to take him. Trade someone like Ehrhoff? Fine, but you make room for him. He's going to be that good, although he was nowhere to be found today during Canada's biggest game of the tournament.

Edmonton is similar to Buffalo with Regeir and Rolston, just clueless from top to bottom. Just stupid decisions left and right.

They have a young team that desperately needs direction and discipline, so they go and hire a rookie coach......

From what I have seen of him, he's not much better than Seth Jones who was passed on by three teams. I don't think Ekblad is that type of can't pass up prospect. I could be dead wrong, but with our strength being on the blue line, I would rather deal the pick and make sure you get some seriously talented forward

Tough to pass on Ekblad.. But we absolutely need some talent in the scoring department.

Yea just look at our forward group. It's just too bad.
If we take Ekblad we become like the bizarro Edmonton, just keep drafting defensemen even though we can't score

I don't think you understood my post. I get tanking. You're to quick to discredit the difficulty of the decisions. Just draft this, hire this, trade for that.
Bam, done. There's going to be a lot more growing pains than that. My point is they dug themselves a deeper hole with hiring Nolan. Do you think having a 4th coach in 12 months will make buffalo a hot free agent destination? The only way this works is if this guys has imeadiate success right out of the gate.

People need to put up with the growing pains . As much as it hurts . The crying around here is worse than Leaf fans. We all want to win.
Free Agents will be lured by the GM, president and owner . Free agents are not the way to go anyways . Look at the two big winners in the last two free agent circuses ( Minnesota and New York ). Has not worked out to well for either one . Trades and drafting is the way to go . Our young assets need to mature to be good commodities to be traded . Right now they are unproven and not attractive to trading partners. Patience is the word of the day.

Trade down where you can still get Dal Colle and gather more assets.

take the best player left at #2

if in their mind it's Eklad, grab him and make him part of the future

Ekblad is as sure of a thing as there is to a top pair d man for the next 10 years where most of our prospects, I am not sure if they will ever be more then a second line pair

How can you say that? Don't you know that Lowe has won like 5 Stanley Cups? Just ask Lowe, he will tell you he knows all and everyone else is stupid.

Hey we agree... Free agency is not the way to build a team properly.... I mean seriously John Scott was our big free agent 2 years ago and look how that turned out....... I kid, I kid

You take Ekblad and trade him for scoring talent if you feel your crowded on D.

you can plug the holes up front in free agents on the cheap for a year or two, then when the D is set if the prospects up front are not ready, go after the top 6 in free agents and trades

In 3 years I fully expect girgens, gringo, armia, foligno, coho and ennis to be top 9 guys and still improving

that leaves 3 spots up front between our other prospects, who we draft in the next 3 years, and any players we get via trade or free agents

I am fine taking Ekblad

It's nearly impossible to get a number 1 center in free agency and if you are trading for one you are giving up a ton. Seguin was highway robbery and unless some team is desperate to get rid of a superstar we need to draft one.

So I have heard. Unless we have a moron for a GM we will rebuild 2X as fast as them

then the sabres should draft DalColle at #2

they are the ones' scouting the players

if they think Ekblad is the stud for 10 years grab him

If they think DalColle is going to be a JT or Seguin player, grab him

right now, I trust whatever Patty and the new GM decides is best since I honestly think Patty is on board with what the fans want

Katz is running that team like he just wants to hang with the early '80s Oiler teams and doesn't care if they win or not. How Lowe has a job still is amazing to me.

On a different note, without Miller next year, it could be a lot longer year than this one will be.

I am totally fine with being patient one more year. Honestly kind of hoping NYI take the first round pick this year so we can have a second shot at drafting McDavid or Eichel. This season feels never ending, and so will next season.. but if we can draft some truly "Elite" talent like that for the first time in ages, it should pay off big time for us.
