Bad PR or no bad PR, the GM and coach that is going to lead this team to a championship is someone the fans don't feel comfortable with. They're going to have to bring in the kinds of players this fanbase doesn't necessarily "identify" with, because those are the kinds of players that win championships. The one thing that's been apparent in this area for over three decades is that nobody here knows how to win.
- buffalofan19

So the GM we haven't hired yet is goin to hire a coach to replace Nolan and will definty bring us the cup? How soon?

Edit: I didn't feel comfortable with RR, should we bring him back?

You know why the sabres organization is a joke? The blackhawks offered terravien for ott and the sabres turned them down.

I tend to disregard SFO because I think he just takes what other people are saying and repeats it with maybe a subtle change (and sometimes no change at all), but... if there is any truth to the rumor that Montreal wants to trade Briere for Ott straight up, and the Sabres do it, I may just find another team to follow.

I'm all for bringing Briere back. In fact, I think it would be a nice move to have him here for the next year and a half while we find our direction. But straight up for Ott? We lose that trade big time.

Hell, I was thinking Briere straight up for Leino would be a good deal for Montreal. If Briere really has no place on that team, why not? I might be inclined to thrown in Sulzer if they wanted too.

Truth is, it's time for LaFontaine to get the GM hired so this team can begin the process of figuring out who they are going to be.

I agree with everything except I can't see any team being dumb enough to take Leino at any cost.

No, that's not what I said. Not all who fall under that category are capable of winning championships, but all capable of winning championships fall under that category. Think of it this way. Not everyone who has a medical license is a great doctor. But all great doctors have a medical license.

I just never saw or read it anywhere and was interested where it was reported. I have no idea if it would be bad or good as I know next to nothing about him.

By your logic, I have no right to tell the moron filling up his gas tank with milk that it's a bad idea because I'm an accountant, not a mechanic.

Ok I can agree with that. My point is they shouldn't have brought Nolan in at all if they didn't want him to succeed and if he had to chance to come out on top. They either set him up to fail or set themselves up to fail. If thy wanted a true "interim" they shoulda kept RR. No body would balk when the new GM fired him.

I have no doubt they want Nolan to succeed. In fact, I would hope so. Wanting him to succeed and his actual ability to succeed are two completely different things. I'm fully expecting him to be the coach next year. I also fully expect the Buffalo Sabres not to win a championship under his watch. I would love to be wrong.

Well, my first thought was it was a major PR move. The season was a disaster under RR and firing Darcy and Rolston and hiring Lafontaine and Nolan excited the casual fans that didn't like the rebuild. They brought Nolan in as an interim that would help point some if these guys back in the right direction and get the attitude of the locker room straight (amazing John Scott didn't do that all by himself)
In the end they hired a smart guy in Lafontaine to help hire a GM and did Nolan a favor by giving him work and letting him showcase his coaching ability in case the new GM has no interest in him,all in perhaps the worst season in franchise history.

All and all they are "marketing" this rebuild quite well

Reshape the roster in the rebuild the right way, and he might have the right guys in the end to do it.
