They mentioned before on the radio. Don't kick the guy who caused it out of the game . let him play another shift. Let the other team deal with him. Bet the cheap shots stop. No the way it is . You kill a guy and you get ejected . keep him in there to get his lumps. - cabin

YES! Exactly. In the 1999 cup run, the Sabres were down one and I could not stand it. It was over.
But 2005, you just knew they would score to come back and win the game.
Drury's goal against the Rangers in the playoffs did not excite me because I expected it to happen. - rmiethaner
Them were the days. You knew the Sabres would come back and win regardless what the score was going into the third. |

That is the problem , We need to take out the instigator rule . So players like Phil Kessel do not feel they can get away with taking the lumber to folks . Which he did again last week . No one here is a fan of those staged fights and even Ted Nolan told John Scott , he does not go for that . But fighting can still have a place in this great game. The league enforcing after the fact is not working , that is obvious by all the unnecessary injuries we are seeing. - Maximum Signal
Yeah, the instigator needs to go. |

How great was it post lockout (not last year) when the Sabres rolled four lines who all could score? - rmiethaner
Then the league caved to Snider and Jacobs and let all the clutching grabbing and cheap crap back in the game. It was fun to watch those games

It can have a place. For guys like Marcus Foligno or Wayne Simmonds type players. IMO the threat of Scott isn't there anymore guys don't have to fight him |

Instead you're now defending players like John Scott and arguing with people who want to get back to those days.

That is the instigator rule has ruined the game . Players get away with cheap crap with no fear of the consequences.

Agreed . Scott prolly won't fight another the rest of the season. Hope he scores a couple more goals. He need 1 more point to pass Peters. He has a better chance than Peters needing 1 point. |

That first year after the lockout was the most fun watching the games. Especially the 2005 playoff run.
The run in the late 90's was good to see, but the hockey was not as good as after that lockout.
The year they won the Presidents Trophy was just not the same. In the playoffs, you just expected them to win and the roller coaster ride was not the same. |

How has the instigator rule "ruined the game" for you? I'm fine with or without fighting... I dont watch hockey to watch fights. I watch hockey to watch the skill and finesse.
The instigator rule put a stop to the thuggery and goonery that went on until it was implemented. Ask someone that doesnt follow hockey one thing about the sport... the first thing they mention is fighting. Cringe.

Thank you Mr Jacobs and Mr Snider . Their teams were not built for that game so they pressured Bettman to get rid of it |

No it didn't now cheap shot artists have no fear of getting their due . They just get a few days off and a star player gets taken out. |

The game has changed because players are getting bigger, stronger and faster. More than half the "dirty hits" earning suspensions arent premeditated. The guy isnt out on the ice thinking "yeah I'm going to go (frank) this guy up because I dont have to answer to anything"....
Having to fight someone isnt the proper way to settle cheap shots. Not playing the game (IE Leagues suspending you) is. |

But if there are no goon type players then it's a skill player taking out another skill player.
Like I said guys like Foligno can answer the bell, or a guy like Myers or Zadarov in the future.
For example say Matt Cooke went and boarded Tyler Ennis, what exactly would Scott have been able to do? If he jumps Cooke and he gets hurt. He's suspended and called a scum just like Thronton |

Maybe you should poll some hockey players . Before you are so sure about your answer ! |

What about the other almost 1/2 ? If getting rid of that rule would deter the "almost 1/2" would it be worth it ? |

My buddy said "plenty of time" right before that face off. Go watch the YouTube video, the fans were confident it would happen. |

You guys don't get it and refuse to understand it . There is a code . But because of the instigator rule . The code cannot be enforced . And more players are getting hurt . Players do not think about the ramifications of their actions . They all make great money and a few games off does not scare them .

Pretty obvious MaximumRetard's love affair for John Scott stems from his love of fighting over the actual game of hockey. File this one in "Back in the Stone Ages".
Fighting has a place in the game but it no longer has a place with "enforcers". Id rather watch Myers have a heated bout with Bergeron over watching John Scott fight Colton Orr. |

I think fines should be a percentage of pay and not a set amount of money. Fining Phaneuf $5,000 is not be same as fining John Scott $5,000. They should take a % based on severity. F-up lose 1%. Really f up take %5 and so on. |

Get rid of the rule and the pansy asss generation of 20 year olds wouldn't do the crap they do. result No blatant injuries .. no staged fight. |
