Not sure I agree, it looked like he wanted to hit Eaves in the shoulder but his stick glanced off of Eaves pad and hit him in the head. Not defending Lupul, as I agree the intent to harm was there, but I don't think he meant to hit him in the head.

For a couple of 1sts, a 24year PPG winger and a possible Stud Dman (worse case #3 DMAN).... yeah I dunno... JT is good but a smig overrated IMO.

He's no Stammer or Crosby and Kessel is a stud.

the best player in that deal, by far, is John Tavares. those firsts are middle of the first round. they don't hold much value and bring zero guarantees. nor does a "possible" stud dman. Kessel is by far the biggest piece going back but he's not in Tavares' league. that Toronto package is pretty big but it just isn't enough to bring in a franchise centre--which is the most sought after asset in the game today.

Who said anything about 2 of them? The asking price would be all those guys listed and more.

The only reason I would do the deal is for the contract.

I agree with the last part but the reason the trades aren't similar is that Vanek is a rental. There was no extension in place. Also, they gave up Moulson who was an effective W with Tavares so they gave up a 1st and a second for a season's worth of a slight upgrade

The issue is kessel was more valuable (younger, controllable for several years beyond the trade) and $ wise kessel cost less.

He's pretty close except older, not Canadian and had a worse contract.
I agree the 1sts are questionable, but there is no garuantee we'd be any better with JT and not Gardiner and Kessel.

I'm not a huge JT fan. He's a great player and his skating has improved alot but more good bodies is better than 1 great body.
