I said this last night, but if this happens, people will justifiably start asking for Bergevin's head. Sign him or shop him at the deadline. This is the one player that should be negotiated now, even before PK (at least PK is RFA).

The only player that should be allowed to walk without being shopped would be Gionta.

Why not shop Gionta?

reminds me of Souray. hung onto him during a career season when he made it pretty clear he wasn't re-singing, missed the playoffs.

what are you gonna get for him? a 4th rounder? maybe? is that worth trading your captain mid-season?

I don't buy this excuse. He plays with no confidence and isn't physical by any stretch of imagination. He also need to take better décisions with the puck and stop turning it over.

there are some big decisions to make on D this summer, especially if Markov walks.
i imagine Murray, Bouillon, Diaz are all gone.

Before this recent stretch of Therrien pulling names from hats, they have seemed to love diaz and his 20+ minutes a night. I suspect he is here for a while.

and wtf are the rest of those guys going to land?

I suspect Gionta will actually get at least a 2nd. It's the deadline and GMs are stupid. He's a cup winner who has done well in the playoffs.....

His troubles stem from confidence in the strength and capabilities of his knee, he will be fine next year.

If so, why wasn't he bad when he came back of the said injury? He was fine in his first 10 games or so.

maybe he gets an assist in the olympics and some NHL team thinks that the habs are not using him properly and trade a 7th rounder for him. In the mean time the less he actually plays in the NHL the better for his "value"

Was he? I don't rememeber, but i do know knee injuries and i can see him second guessing himself and whitch leads to mistakes.

If he was just like he was during the first 10 games as you say, then maybe he tweaked his knee, nothing to damage it but just enough to let his mind know that hey i'm not 100% and i have to watch what i can do.

Or those 10 games acted like a placebo in your eyes, as it had been awhile since the habs had a player like him in the lineup and that one or two hits made you think that he was as good as new. As a 70% Emelin is amazing compared to Murray

could also be a conditioning thing... not exactly the most conditioned athlete on the roster at the best of times. and he's 30 games behind everyone else.

Oh i have nothing against Emelin and believe he can turn it around but lately he has been horrible. This blueline need improvement and the whole team need more character/leadership and grit. Might take a look at Dubinsky and Umberger...
