Prust should be a 4th liner. He's playing a Dave Semenko role right now.
Moulson is Ryder 2.0 - muffin_man
Agree that Prust is a 4th liner but on a team that is much deeper up front that this one.

As long as this team ice 3-4 midgets in the top 9, they will get pushed around easily. Small guys with heart are great but 1....maybe 2 are enough. Gio has to go IMO, time to get bigger slowly and he is the first one to go. - Symba007
Agreed and the whole "who takes his spot" argument sucks the big one. Many have complained about AG27's ice-time this year, so he takes his spot. |

This. Gionta should not be re-signed. - kev1586
To play on the 2nd line, I agree. Gionta would be fine playing on the 3rd line. |

We already have too many small guys, and Bournival is younger and cheaper and can fill that void without wasting 3M on keeping another midget around. |

Galchenyuk needs to move to centre and yes, get a hell of a lot more ice time. |

Not to mention the fact that Bergevin has to eventually move a center. We have 5 centers right now and the accepting to play wing won't fly forever with all of them. So he can fill some needs that way instead of re-signing Gionta. |

I've beaten this argument to death... I don't care if they want him to progress along and all that, but it has to happen. If they want to start giving him 18 minutes on the wing or keep him at 14 playing center, but one of the two scenario needed to happen 30 games ago. MT is wasting him right now. |

So we want cheaper midgets? (kidding)
I think Gionta means much more to this team. Veteran leadership is also needed to help out the younger guys. The issue of size down the middle is more crucial than on the wings imo. |

On this team, take the size wherever you can get it.
And Plekanec, Gorges, Briere would all still be around. |

I totally agree with this. How can he develop if they keep him on the bench with every mistake? The kid has a boat load of talent and seems to be stagnating right now. Give him a regular spot on the 2nd pp unit and see what happens. |

Yeah, I don't know of too many fans that aren't willing to live with some growing pains in his case. Subban went through it and is a better player for it today...
Edit: Ditto with Price. |

I will take a small guy who plays big over a big guy who plays small every day of the week. Size should not become the overriding consideration. |

Agreed to a certain extent. At this point though, we have too many... Gionta, Desharnais, Briere, Gorges, Diaz. At some point, it has to be a consideration. |

Still a lot of hockey to be played and who knows, Therrien may surprise and give the kid a bit more rope. It just seems like they are so afraid to rush things and (frank) up where he is concerned. I am not saying to play him 20 minutes + per game but a few increases may go a long way. |

I have no problem with Gionta and Gorges, as long as they are used correctly. Gio on the 3rd and Gorges as a 5 or 6 guy is fine. That would mean other changes of course but to me, that is where those 2 should be. |

I get what you mean about their leadership but leaders are everywhere in life, and every time you keep someone like Gionta on a third line or a Gorges on your bottom pair, you're blocking a kid from getting a shot. Now the D is weaker on this team so they have to do what you suggest with Gorges anyways, but I just don't see the point in paying 3M to Gionta to fill that roster spot. Bournival, Prust, hell even Dumont all want a crack at filling that lineup spot, and if none can take it and run, Moen will do the job at half the price. (I can't believe I just used Moen like that ) |
