It wasn't such a high cross-check. Eaves drops down lower to reach out for the puck. I think if he doesn't do that, the stick goes for the shoulder, which is a 2min penalty and that's that.

Well, he shouldn't be cross checking in the first place...so maybe a fine like that is actually what'll serve as a deterrent next time...we know the 2 minutes does not cut it...
