It actually looks like hartnell is breaking out of whatever funk hes been mired in. Points in last 7 or 8 games and is starting to get chippy.

Great display of goaltending on both ends except the ROR goal. Couturier with an uncharacteristic game for him.

Does anyone else think Hartnell is declining rapidly?

- PhiFaninEdm

Nope, has a 8 game point streak

Overall I think he is on the decline of his career. More nights than not he wont be great, but right now he is playing well. Theres no way around that. He is back to being chippy and fired up.

It was a hit from behind, when a guy who was (fairly) tight against the boards, a moment after having the puck. He wasn't violently shoved from behind, he wasn't charged, he didn't hit him in the head. It's a play that happens several times a game, every game. Sucks that he got hurt, but it wasn't an atrocious, dirty hit like Coatsey was saying.
- jmatchett383

Look Coatsey is a joke. I doubt anyone will disagree with you there. But the rest of the crew is very good. Jones sometimes makes the mistake of playing down to Coates, but JJ and Clement are good announcers. Much better then national guys like Emerick and OjRichard. You might not like that he leans the Flyers way, but he is employed by the Flyers to announce for Flyers fans. He has catch phrases like rock em sock robots, and left handed larceny... But every announcer has thier own shtick. One of the greatest of all times harry K ... Outta here.... Chase Utley you are the man. And so on.

When I want to judge the quality of the broadcasters I close my eyes or walk away from the tv. Jim Jackson's play by play is radio quality. You can picture what is happening by what he is saying. You can tell the quality of the chance by the pitch of his voice.

Example... Emmerick would say... Giroux heads up ice, passes to voracek, back to giroux, and scores.

JJ would say it like... Giroux heads up ice on the left side, dishes cross ice to Voracek, quickly back to giroux who shooot and SCORES!!!

And for Clement and Jones they are much better then most color guys. Real analysis, and they are both pretty fair about the calls. They might not flat contradict Coates, but they do call it how it is. If you take out Coates its an excellent boradcast team.

My question to you is.... was he ever great? He is a gritty, make room for your linemates, get an occasional dirty goal player. What he has been and what is expected of him is a 40-50 pt player that gets under the other teams skin and provides screens. Thats what he is doing and is on pace for. Dont expect him to get 37 goals anymore. He is more or less a product of his linemates success. He will not do these things on his own. Much like Kunitz in Pitt. Without Crosby Kunitz doesnt even flirt with his current numbers.

But he did get hit from behind. Are they trying to legislate those hits out of the league or not?

Look, I'm not trying to bury Landeskog or get him suspended (I wish we had him!). I don't think the hit rises to that, necessarily. I think his wallet should be a tad lighter today is all.

- johndewar

I watched the reply. It didn't look like a hit as much as a bump to hold the player against the boards. Was it to the back. yes. Was the puck away from the player, yes. It was a fluke injury. IMO Landeskog shouldnt have touched him. It was interference, but way to boarderline to call.

Yeah, that tension is from listening to the male version of Fran Drescher. Everyone gets on edge after listening ot that for 20 minutes.

Cheechoo had a run of 4 seasons putting up 28, 56, 37, and 23 goals, and was basically never heard from again.

Hartnell has had 6 seasons of 20-or-more goals and is a player who seemingly always steps his game up in the playoffs. But yeah, he's awful, trade him, worthless sack of poop.

- jmatchett383

I would trade him if I could. I would also trade Simmonds. I dont have a problem with Power Forwards, but both these guys are awful at handling the puck and passing the puck and are extremely streaky. And lets be honest, they aren't going to create their own goals. They rely more on other players. Much rather trade Hartnell for some draft picks, and use Simmonds while his value is above sky high in a package for a number 1 d-man.

i'd rather just trade hartnell and keep simmonds if we lose both then we'll be wishing we had a semi skilled physical player

Scott Hartnell is no Tim Kurr or John LeClair. We've been spoiled by having these two guys during the 90's but at the same time, Scott Hartnell is an effective Power Forward. Not every player is as prepared to go to the crease the way he and Simmonds do. His job is to basically take a beating along the boards, in the crease and create space for the skilled guys. He doesn't have hands like Jagr. In fact he doesn't have a pretty game at all. I wouldn't exactly call it easy to stand in front of the net as his own teammates fire pucks in his dirction, all the while he looks for tips and rebounds with an opposing player on his back. In fact his body is facing these pucks that could very deflect and hit him at anytime. Almost a suicide mission.

Every player has a specific role on the ice. Power forwards are used for specific strategy. Edmonton Oilers need a power forward badly. We're lucky to have guys like Scott Hartnell and Wayne Simmonds. You don't win without them.

Yes. The league-wide interest in a guy like Simmonds shows that he can easily be replaced.

I would keep Simmonds but Chicago don't have a power forward.
