He is. But the problem is that, when the Matt Carle's of the world are getting $5.5M in UFA, Dion Phaneuf is going to want (and get) $7M in UFA. So Toronto either had to pony up the money or lose their top defenseman.

Again, they still never fixed the issue of protecting owners from themselves.

Agreed. I speak to a lot of Leafs fans that don't love his game either.

I'm going to go ahead and assume that Matt Read will be on IR by tomorrow.

I don't trust anything that comes out of the Flyers, wrt injury reports.

- johndewar

I'm not sure I get why people have a problem when teams are cryptic with injuries. Giving out that info is like painting a bullseye on the injured area for other players to target.

Halladay's surgery was successful, he'll be better than ever.
Halladay's retiring.

I think Reuben truly believed that. He believes the Phillies lineup will revert back to 2006-2010 form

Well in my opinion with the Cap going up Toronto actually got a deal. I could see Phanuef getting much closer to 8.5 million on the open market. But at the same time, Toronto did have a choice. They have deep defense. Do you not think the Flyers would have traded Coburn and a 1st for Phanuef? Then they would let Gardiner, and Reiley develop.
- youarewrong

And they have that option. However, now that he is signed, the Flyers are probably more willing to trade for him as opposed to trading for him unsigned. The return for a signed player (usually) beats out the return for an impending UFA.

Reuben has ruined the team and cost us the 2010 World Series.

Nope. I'm going to take everything I was going to give to you and give everyone on the board 1 dollar instead.

If Phaneuf accepts the trade with his NMC.

Matt Read is out for tonight's game.
- KGBflyers10

Providing it's short term, not the end of the world. Read is a very versatile forward.
VDV in, and Downie moves up I would assume.

I feel the Flyers have been pretty fortunate injury wise this season, compared to the usual.

They set the salary cap and revenue sharing at 50%. As the cap goes up, so do salaries. You can't stem the tide. I'm surprised he didn't get more. I thought 7 mil was a deal.

Most players not named Heatley do accept. Does his current deal have a NMC, or just the extension?

He can't be sent down but he has a limited no trade clause. Not sure about the current deal.

I get it from the Team's POV. I just don't like it, as a fan.

As a fan, I just like knowing the facts of an injury to better evaluate the team/player, etc.

I know his deal was pending the negotiation of a limited NTC/NMC. I'm sure he was pushing for full NMC and Leafs were pushing for limited NTC. Not sure which side got which.

How about Gagne... He only waived to go to Tampa.... If he would have waived to go somewhere else, we could have had a much better deal. And Briere would never waive.

Nice video on Scott Laughton.

Also - another Chris Pronger comparison in the video. I feel like we need a hockey version of "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon", but instead, try to link all of the players in the NHL who have been compared to Chris Pronger.

Again, I said most, not all, and Gagne kind of got a bad deal ("Thanks for all of your years of effort and helping us beat the Bruins, bye bye."). And Briere was injured at the TDL last year with no timetable for return, so I doubt teams were lining up to take him. But I was referring to his current deal, not the extension he just signed.

Don't Vinny and Downie both play RW? They may have to go with this lineup to avoid playing one of them at an unfamiliar position.
