I just saw that Brian Burke was quoted as saying that Bobby Ryan can't even spell the word intense, because it's not in his vocabulary.

Now granted, I've never met them, but Phil Kessel and JVR and Paul Martin and Paul Statsny are more intense than Bobby Ryan? Really?

Well, golly gee, Brian Burke! I guess Bobby Ryan is the biggest miracle in NHL history, because I would never have guessed scoring 30-plus goals every season is as easy as falling out of bed!

yea that's probably one of the dumbest things i've heard sounds like burke is just sour grapes towards ryan for some reason

I think the problem they have with Ryan is that he doesn't fit the team. He's not especially fast, he's not very good defensively and he doesn't produce very much on the PP. He's a game breaker, I think they're looking for more. JVR is similar but provides speed.

Not sure why they took Wheeler over Ryan. I guess because Wheeler can play all over the lineup whereas Ryan is strictly top 6

It is easily one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read -- again, I have never met these people. But the reason JVR got his ass traded is because he wasn't intense! Let's call that spade for what it is! You could barely get the guy to come out of college.

Nobody ever doubted JVR's ability -- you only move that guy because you question his heart.

And Bobby Ryan's done things that JVR hasn't come close to doing -- and Ryan's only two years older!

yea but after miller and howard it's hard to top quick

i'd go with bishop as the starter, and miller and howard as the backups.

I think it's all about speed too. They think JVR will be better on the larger ice. I think Burke thinks much more highly of JVR than Ryan. He's seen a lot of both players and knows them better than us. Not saying he's right, but he clearly like JVR much more.

They don't feel the risk meets reward on both Yandle and Byfuglien.

I think it's interesting reading this stuff. It gives you an idea of who GMs think are overrated. I guess there is a reason Yandle, Byfuglien and Ryan have been involved in trade rumors for years.

Other than the Bruins, what other home team has won a Winter Classic?

Yeah...I guess. Man. Sometimes...I always watch, but I'm definitely going to be looking for what they saw in some of the more debatable picks.

What happens if Paul Martin goes down on the first shift of the first game?

"Who plays those minutes?" Burke asks.

"If Keith Yandle goes in our top four, I think everyone we play is excited," Burke says.

And I totally get that -- it's not all about stats, and it's not all about draft ranking and talent. Heart does play a role in it, and on a larger ice surface, speed does, too.

But man. When does production start to matter? I can't understand how you take two guys who play the same position -- neither of whom is going into the Hall of Fame for Intensity, apparently -- and you are in love with the one guy whose on-ice production is worse!

No matter how they want to slice that, JVR isn't so much freaking faster than Bobby Ryan that you should be able to ignore straight-up production -- because clearly, all that speed and grit that JVR supposedly has hasn't gotten him to 30 goals in a season yet!

What about having Yandle play with Suter, a notion that harkens back to the very first meeting when Poile suggested hypothetically putting Dustin Byfuglien with Ryan Suter.

"We'll all get home sooner," Burke retorts.

JVR is faster than Ryan. It's not like comparing Kane to Grossmann, but there is a noticeable difference.

The group just doesn't like Ryan and other than Lombardi, the group doesn't seem to trust Yandle. Burke has a significant dislike for Yandle

Parise, Kessel, Kane and Pacioretty can all really shoot the puck. I think their thinking is that Ryan isn't much better than those guys on offense to validate taking him because he doesn't provide anything else.

sounds like he's gone senile, this is ridiculous!

42 games 18 - 18 for 36 points +10, so no one can say it's because of Getzlaf & Perry
this is a joke, he just doesn't like him.

& why would Yandle cost a ton in trade talk, but can't make this team either?
really?
another joke, he gets penalized because of his offensive skills, not pegging him as a shutdown type? He doesn't like him either.

Question. If the Flyers win tomorrow and the Caps somehow lose, will we hold the tie breaker over Toronto, sliding us up from eighth to fifth?
