Same here!
It's like a true non fan's way (or the network's way), of saying, "ok, hurry up & make someone a winner right now" it sucks

like I said the 4 on 4 was really wide open, (not sure we would have done too well in a 10 minute 4 on 4 or down to a 3 on 3)

Unlike most of the folks I seem to talk to about it, I don't mind when a game ends up tied....because honestly, the game ended in a tie the last two nights. Flyers got bonus points from a gimmick.

I think back to back shootout wins from other games. Probs the first in consecutive games.

Either way its nice to have the confidence for a change going into these things with Sir Mason in net.

It absolutely is. First time ever going into one I wasn't full of dread.

me neither, the saves or goals in the shootout don't even count on one's statistics,
It can't get anymore "gimmick" then that

"Game time is 10:00 p.m. EST. The match will be televised locally on CSN Philly."

Isnt the game at 9:00 tonight?

Here, here.

I didn't mind the tie, either. I would prefer no ties. But there has got to be a better way. Look at the Caps--12 wins in ROT, 8 skills-comp wins. That's messed up.

Happy, healthy and safe New Year to all!!

Would like to see Gill replace Mez in tonight's lineup, but Cheif rarely changes things up after a win.

What a mess the Flames are. They should have traded Miikka Kiprusoff ages ago to stay afloat. They also should have got more than what they got for Iginla. Instead of biting on moving two key peices, they look like this. I feel for this franchise, the fans deserve better. I feel their best chance at survival now is to draft well, trade Curtis Glencross and pending UFA Mike Cammalleri.

If they have to keep it-and it seems they do-then the best solution is to go with the 3-2-1 format.

3 points for regulation win
2 for OT win
1 for Gimmick win
Zip Nada for any loss

He might tonight. He was LIVID in the post game. Only coach I have seen that unhappy after a win was Keenan

Yeah, I know, but beating a team in 60 minutes should be worth more than OT or SO

Ughh---but math is so much easier when it's just ones and twos.

You're asking too much if I have to multiply by threes.

I know...

Ideally it'd be 2 for a win, 1 for a tie, but hey, NHL

I would definitely like to see some changes and even strength but I don't think I would like to see Meszaros be replaced with Gill. Two different defenseman. Gill wouldn't help the foot speed back there with Schenn and Grossmann already back there. Plus Schenn, Grossmann and Gill aren't great with the puck.

Two points for regulation and OT win.
One for Gimmick win.
Zero for loss.

Keep math simple. Distance sport from soccer point system.

I hate ties. To me, ending in a tie is worse than ending the game on a skills competition because then at least there is some resolution. Ending in a tie just makes me wonder why the game was even played. In any sort of match there is supposed to be a definite winner and loser.

But there's no doubt this is a choice of the lesser of two evils, and for some it's ending the game in a tie, and for others it's finding some other way to declare a winner.

For a few brief shifts last night I thought I saw the Downie-Couts-Read line back together.

I'm not sure how you make it happen with the way Raffl is playing right now but that line needs to get back together. Downie has a lot to offer but it seems like he needs that calming influence of Couts on his line to show it.

Hey Billy.. Just assuming this was a typo, but looks to me like the game is actually 9:00 pm as opposed to 10:00.

This is my opinion on ties, as well.

As reprehensible as some may find shootouts, ties are not acceptable ending for a sporting event, IMO.

Great game to watch, but, as Berube said, the D, and Mez in particular(whom Berube dresses!), has to pick it up. Both G and Mason carried the team last night. Also fun to win shootouts, even if I hate the concept.

On a different note: I am a little upset at the post-game interviews posted on flyers.nhl.com. How can a multi million dollar organization allow it's interviews to be shot with what is obviously a 2010ish cell phone?

Then the 1976-77 Canadiens would have had 192 points instead of 132, even though there was no OT back then, it would tarnish the records too much, a team with a worse record today would finish with more points, (I think)

Really hoping Coach Chief reunites Downie--Couturier--Read line.

That line was fun to watch every shift.
