Definitely not like McDavid. McDavid has been talked about like #87.
- sbroads24

MacKinnon was the next #87 too... Jones didnt creep up to the top of the prospect rankings until the beginning of the 2012-13 season. He surpassed MacKinnon at the WJC because MacKinnon underwhelmed and Drouin was impressive. To be honest, Jones had a poor overall WJC last year as well.

Jones-MacKinnon are similar to Ekblad-Reinhart. Either could be a #1, and it will all depend on the teams ultimately deciding which direction they want to go.

Im not saying they are the same talent wise, what im trying to say that they were the "locks" for being selected #1
- hubie

This is were i will disagree with you, he was never a lock for number 1. MacKinnon was always there as well. Many scouting reports had Mac above Jones.

Maybe he left Moulson out because not all of his scoring has come while in Buffalo.
- HonkFortheGoose

Yeah, only counting Buffalo goals. Same would be true of Vanek too

They say every year or two that (fill in name here) is the next Crosby. Not to take away from what these guys can do, but those are some really big shoes to fill. It seems unfair to put that label on them. At some point the expectations that are heaped on them are crippling.

In regards to Jones at the WJC last year, it was really McCabe that played really well. Jones was the beneficiary of being on the same pairing as him.

IM nto saying I know all but I do have a reliable link to a reliable scouting service instead of a bunch people claiming mack was the #1 all year when I can show other wise

I follow the Rutherford approach of not drafting D men early , but he was ranked #1 the majority of the year.

People saying it was mack the whole year without their own source (which I knwo has no meaning here) is like saying oh I knew Russel Wilson was going to be good.

I dont recall anyone being said they are the next crosby. Drouin would be the closest at a big strech.

Im im not mistaken even JT was in that regard. Very good centers yes but not crosby,

I look at multiple scouting reports and agencies, not just the ISS. others had Mack over Jones at points in times.

Mack had 70+ point in 30+ games that year. He was a force all year.

DO you have proof, like I said its easy to say this after the fact. I can show month by month and you have hear say

The Halifax team as a whole was a force. Next year Erie will be the equivalent of Halifax last year.

heres just june humm notice how early its jones and once the cup starts it becomes mack humm why is that?

Not necessarily. McDavid is good, but that doesn't mean the rest of the team will be. There are plenty of teams that have a superstar in the Jr ranks and the team itself is still bad. It's actually a testament to how good McDavid is, because last I checked, Erie was a subpar team.

You also have to be careful comparing the two (Halifax and Erie), as one is in the Q where scoring is higher and the other is in the OHL.

I can look for some. I am not sure why it is such a huge deal. Mack and Jones were always an even 1-2. depending on who you looked at/talked to.

I've really only heard that MacKinnon (given where he came from, IDENTICAL to Crosby) and McDavid billed as "the next #87" since Crosby came about.

As for McCabe, he really was USA best defenseman the entirety of the tournament last year. I picked up on it all tournament and was bragging about it. Im excited for when McCabe gets here. I think hes still 2-3 years away though.

Well seeing as next year they will have 2 top 5 picks (very conservative) id be willing to put a lil friendly wager on it

They are at the top of their division this year. I think last year they were the bottom of their division.

There was a lot of hype around Tavares as well. How he was good enough that he should have been able to be drafted early and blah, blah, blah.

There was also speculation that Tavares would fall out of the top overall pick. IE) McDavid

To be fair, he's done one heck of a job considering the talent the Islanders have surrounded him with.

Generally speaking the 1sts with hype have panned out. I remember there was similar hype around Stamkos.
