correct. Ive only had time to watch the US game...... I hate this time of year always running around.

I haven't seen any of Canada's games myself, but someone on here mentioned he got benched during the game the other day. He's having a bit of a rough time I guess.

Sutter seems to be leaning on veterans right now. The Canadians have been playing catch-up far more than they are accustomed to. I didn't watch much of the Czech game, but supposedly McDavid got benched after taking two penalties, both of which the Czechs scored on.

makes sense, bad penalties does he look out of place?

Not really. However, I don't think they expect him to make the big plays as much as Drouin, Mantha, Horvat, Reinhart, Ekblad, etc.

Put it this way: Eichel is being given more responsibility by the US than McDavid is by the Canadians.

I picked up on that pretty early during the Chex game, I dream every night of Mc D and Eichel in next years draft and this statement by no means is trying to re hash that talk.

Pretty much. I wouldn't read anything into McDavid struggling. Canada is loaded and this taking a back seat thing is probably incredibly new to McDavid

I liken the battle that team USA had against the vaunted Soviets in 1980 Lake Placid to what my Pops is fighting right now, that vaunted cancer word!
He CAN WIN just like TEAM USA did against the vaunted Soviets!!!!!!!!!
He will win!

From what I've seen of him play, he's pretty good. If he keeps that up, he may challenge McDavid for #1 next year.

Right. Canada has the luxury of giving a guy like McDavid sheltered minutes, while the US doesn't have as deep of a pool (although, this US team might be the deepest I've seen since I've started watching the tournament religiously in 2008). They're looking to dominate next year in Montreal/Toronto. It's becoming more and more apparent when you look at the young team they brought to Malmo, and how it's struggling a bit. It's all about gaining experience and becoming battle tested this year.

I doubt it. With all the hype surrounding him, it would be a PR nightmare. A GM would have to have some serious guts to make that move.

No GM is going to pass on McDavid. This happens every year. There is a guy who has been deemed to be #1 and names are thrown out saying player X could leap frog him.

McDavid will go #1. I guarantee it.

I know its not the same but Jones was the "lock" to be #1

But looks like he may have entoomed himself at #2

It does. When you are deemed the best for a period of time people reach to find things wrong with you or reach to find someone they can predict will be better.

On the flip side, Seth Jones was the lock to be the number 1 at this time last year.

That's not entirely true. Much like the way we talk about McDavid over a year before his draft, Mackinnon was always considered the heavy favourite in 2012 for the 13 draft.

Also neither of those two received the hype McDavid has nor the comparison. Been hearing about him since last year

Exactly. I'm not saying he's going to pass McDavid, but he could challenge him for it in the overall rankings for a bit. The WJC has a way of shaking things up for a bit in the Central Scouting rankings. Things tend to fall back in place pretty closely to how they were before the tournament, but it is interesting how it changes for a bit.

At the end of the WJC though, Jones was slated #1 and Drouin had pushed heavily into the top 3. Some people thought it was possible he could go #2 over MacKinnon. It happens. Things tend to fall back in place eventually though.

It was kind of a tie between Jones and MacKinnon at that point, and everyone figured that since the US won that tournament, and Jones played a big role in it, and MacKinnon was non-existent, he had passed him, but it really didn't have much bearing on anything.

Was Seth Jones a lock though? There were various scouting reports who had Jones in the 2-3 scotuing range, IIRC.

McDavid has been the 2015 consencus #1 for 2 years now.
