It's the Sabres standard, IMO. Their usual play over the years seems to be:

Stop/drop the pass 4 feet inside the blue line
Skate it in but stay way outside and drive into the corner
Skate it in between the faceoff dots but stop/button hook before getting too deep

They are awful at just getting the puck deep and grinding. They don't feel obligated to work that hard
