Team USA will live and die with the play of Ryan Miller and as an American, I am totally fine with that.

Miller Time 2014.

- Ryan_Wilson

I'm fine with Miller too he has been great this year on a horrible team. Just wish the two insurance policies weren't two guys who have been hurt pretty much all year. Seems like an unnecessary risk. Wish Bishop or Schneider was taken. At least Bishop over Howard should have occurred.

Looks like the U.S. is playing it safe, going with the reputation of Goalies instead of who is actually playing the best now. Bishop really is only just this year getting the starting opportunity and is running very well with it. As a Canadian Fan, I'm glad Bishop isn't going---he'd be tough to beat IMO. If he were to falter, there's 2 others there to take his place.
Team Canada played it safe in '06 and totally flopped, so it'll be interesting to see who they chose this time 'round.

Yes you are. His numbers are terrible this year. Lehner's are better. Eddie Lack's are better and I'm not being a homer by saying The Stork should play.

Lehner's their #2. The Monster is probably #3.

- therealagent

Again, body of work. Lack has done zero. Lehner has been at most decent this year. Enroth has a gold medal from a world tournament. Yea, he can play with a team in front of him too.

Bishop wouldn't start over Miller. So there's that. I'm of course of the mass majority that Howard over Bishop is a total farce.

I'm having troubles following your logic....

You claim Enroth should be on team Sweden because of past accomplishments even if others like Lehner or Gustavsson are playing better right now.

Yet would clearly pick Bishop over Howard because Bishop is playing great hockey this season while Howard, despite having more past success and experience, is struggling this year.

Quick hasn't been nearly the same caliber he was from 2010-2012 over the last two seasons, and Howard is another Osgood smokeshow, and this season is proving it now that Detroit isn't a juggernaut anymore - NO clue why they put him on the team, but as a canadian I'm glad they did.

An unbiased view of the american goaltenders tells me the lineup should be:

-Miller
-Schneider
-Bishop

Two guys having good seasons with the pedigree to back it up, and one guy who has been arguably the hottest goalie in the league this year.

Miller is the starter regardless, but if he gets hurt, Quick and Howard are not going to inspire a lot of confidence in the USA based on how they've looked lately.

Lehner has the tenth best SV% in the league on a team that hasn't played any defence for the first half of the season.

He has been outstanding, and should easily be starting over Anderson right now in every game he can.

Enroth has been awful this year, and it's pretty hard to push the team-based excuse because his teammate in Miller has a 0.927 behind that same team.

0.909% is not olympic worthy on any of the top squads.

There haven't been many that have impressed me from Canada. Seems like too many players are still trying to find their role in the tournament.

I suppose you've missed the playoffs Quick over the last 2 years? The bigger the game the better he is, and the Olympics is a big stage. To say Quick isn't going to inspire confidence for the US is ignorant. Ask Backes about how much confidence he would have in Quick. He's been a nightmare to the Blues over the last couple of guys.

I think there is little to no communication between them and before the game even started you look at these guys and it seems like they all feel like there is a black cloud over them. They just haven't worked hard enough. Also since McDavids benching he hasn't been moving his feet at all. He is a great pick pocket like Datsyuk and took to penalties last game and is now playing to cautious and is standing still to often instead of moving his feet.

I understand the Devils aren't an incredible team this year. But. Using the word "snubbed" over a goalie who has 5 wins in 18 GP sounds a little homerish.

More than anything, Schneider gets more bored, more aggravated. Always a bridesmaid. It'd be really funny if Brodeur got a veteran nod to the Canadian team. Cory'd really lose it then.

Bottom line is he is good enough to be there. You are fooling yourself if you think Howard carries Detroit because frankly it's the other way around. There is little doubt in my mind that Schneider is better then Howard.

Howard: 6w in 21 games
Schneider 5 wins in 18 with about 1.5 goals per game in support.

Schneider isn't starting everyday simply because the team hasn't scored in front of him. Howard was losing his starting job because he was getting outplayed.

if either quick or howard aren't fully fit by the time the olympics roll around, team usa can still add schneider as a replacement. this is why they name the hurt guys first so they have options.

bishop should feel more snubbed than schneider quite frankly.

Howards playoff run last year and his added expedience give him the advantage in a pretty equal rave judging by their bodies of work this season. In the end they probably won't factor in much with team USA anyways.

I don't get why Howard is there period. Guy imo is a product of playing for the Red Wings. Put him on the Devils and I think he would look very normal and we play a defensive game.

Do you think the pressure gets to the team? No other country cares half as much as Canada does about this tournament. Just weird to see such a talented team continually underperform. They are going to make their first matchup incredibly difficult.

I just don't think Howard is better the Schneider period. My brother is a Wings fan and I have never thought he was a great goalie. He is a good starting goalie on a team with a lot of talent. I think if he played for us he would sink not swim.

I think it could for sure but at the same time is it maybe more on who is picking the team then who is on it? I mean when have we not brought the most talent ? I think these other countries are getting much stronger in building teams instead of throwing a bunch of guys that are really good. Yea they left Nurse off and brought a few defensive minded guys but if I where to have never seen a game of hockey before I would think these guys don't even like each other they are a team of individuals. The American team is built exactly the way a good NHL team is built and I just don't think Canada's is.
