Yes, they have.

Injuries or no injuries, the "stakes" are only high enough in the playoffs and championships. How does a goaltender play when there's no tomorrow? Bishop hasn't been in that situation yet. They're going with the safe bet.

If bishop had a poopty start to the season there would be no tmrw because lindback would have stole the job . It's a minimum comparison but the situation is still there , and bishop has been elite this season . I don't care what you say or what stats you pull out because there's no other way to describe his performance this season . Bishop got robbed . How is going with a goalie with poopty record and poopty stats a safe bet over going with a goalie with elite everything this season . The Olympics are this season , they weren't last season , they weren't the season before , ore before .. They're this season . Who is THE BEST American goalie in the league right now ? Ben bishop folks , and Ryan miller is excellent too . And guess what ? That doesn't even get you the 3rd spot .. Josh Harding doesn't have any Olympic status he's extremely hot this year and I think should at least get a try out or ill feel the same way ...

Well that's sort of the point, isn't it? Bishop's having the best season of the three in the conversation, and it's not even close. I don't know about you, but I'll take the guy who's playing incredibly well over the guy who's playing decently every day of the week when I'm trying to fill that third spot.

And, further to that, Bishop is actually winning hockey games this season. No Stamkos. No Hedman. He's having an MVP-like year. It's not about who is subjectively 'better', as you put it. It's about who's playing better hockey right now. To use some of your words, I doubt you'll find many who think Schneider is playing better than Bishop.

I think Howard's a horrible choice. Guy's been terrible.

If you go with the most skilled goalie for the third spot its probably Schneider, he only lost the "starting" spot because the team in front of him couldn't score. Bishop has had the best season, possibly of any american goalie. I don't really see where Howard fits. Yeah, its only the third goalie spot, but I think its unfair to the players to not take the 3 best.

Homerism aside, it seems like a pretty bad idea to have two of the 3 guys be guys who are both coming right off injuries.

What if both Quick and Howard's injuries linger and significantly affect their play? Then USA only has one viable goalie in Miller?

I totally understand sending Quick regardless because of who lights out he's been on big stages, but it seems like it would have been a much better choice to send either Schneider or Bishop so you aren't risking having two of your 3 goalies injured.

Then again, maybe these are all just rumors, whatever.
