Eklund for the hundredth time,
There are no d-men in Calgary to be traded for, unless Boston is willing to give up a huge return for Gio or take on Wideman's awful deal. I suppose maybe Brodie under the right circumstances but even given his bad year I can't imagine the Flames being that enthused to move him. |

Anyone think there is a chance Edler can fetch Nyquist and Mantha? red wings drastically looking for big name dman |

Didn't Burkie say Calgary was in a trade freeze until they found a new GM?
Also, Hartnell has a NMC. - TheJerseyDevil1
I would hope not, because it's looking like the GM search might not be resolved until the end of the season and they still need to trade Cammy (and perhaps a few others.) personally I'd be fine with letting Burke handle that anyway.
Burke's trade freeze is simply an extended version of the NHL's official Christmas trade freeze. It's always been his policy. |

They are looking for a RHS from the point. Edler is good but he's not righty. |

I was gonna say those are the 3 WORTH trading for (and all like I say are not likely to be moved).
I guess there's Russell and Smid too, but Russell is hurt for the next month (besides it would break my heart if he moved for a crap return) and Smid showed already that he wasn't worth very much and has been pretty useful besides the fact.
Point still stands, d is not a position the Flames are likely to deal. |

Don't they have Seiloff and Wotherspoon waiting in the wings? |

Given that neither has played an NHL game yet I'd say that's a stretch. Promising, yes. Sieloff has been hurt most of the year. |

Not sure why you say Wideman's deal is so terrible, he has actually played decent in his time with Calgary & our power play has sucked since he's been injured. Not a chance Brodie gets moved, he was due to for a bit of a regression since the last 2 years have been incredible progression. He still plays top 4 minutes. I have no complaints. Russell has played great & they should pay him some money & resign him sooner than later. I see Butler being moved for a 3rd to Boston. |

I could see a return to Boston for Wideman. He played great with Chara one year. |

Wideman's deal will get worse over time, that's why it's bad. Teams don't generally pay a whole lot for guys with that much term left on the deal.
If Boston wants that awful worthless Butler they can have him for a 7th for all I care. I'd be laughing my ass off if they got a 3rd.
Actually if they moved Butler it would probably mean they played Breen in his place so . Still though I fantasize that somehow other GMs don't recognize how bad this guy is |

If Poile can get Moulson down to Nashville, he won't be there long, trust me. He has expressed interest in staying in Buffalo and playing under Nolan. If Nolan is still coach after this season! which I'm hoping he will be! Moulson will resign with buffalo, so buffalo will basically steal Nashvulle's 1st rounder and a strong scoring prospect for nothing - Buffalo_Boy

The same GM who did that trade managed to trade Erat for Filip Forsberg. I don't get the NHL sometimes.
I'm kidding sort of, I think Poile is a terrific GM in general. |
