All kidding aside, do you seriously think this group of Dmen can keep up with playoff pace hockey? I sure as hell dont.
- hereticpride

I believe this team is capable of at least a fun run in the playoffs.

Is this D corps a championship caliber corps? Nope. A conference final caliber corps? Nope.

Was the entire Devils team 2 years ago or whenever a team that on paper looked like it could get out of the first round?

Agreed.

I really dont know what their plan is. Wait 3-4 years for Morin and Hagg to be ready? Hope Phaenuf hits FA?(it doesnt sound like he will) Or sit and stare happily at our deep depth at center while the blueline goes to crap?

- hereticpride

No way Phaneuf makes it UFA, I mentioned earlier, what solid D men have actually made it to UFA? Not many if any.
Our shutdown line Couts read Downie, has played 20 minutes on most nights, same as our top line, do we need 3rd line players making big $ & playing less minutes?
(I see Simmonds as a top 6 forward, he's on the 3rd line for depth), but imagine an injury to Coburn? Hell the Pens were missing all of their top 4 D men at one time, and were still winning, we couldn't afford to miss one guy.
We need better balance

That devils team is different to what we are, they play a tight defensive system where all the forwards buy in to the system.

....but still were viewed as a pushover by 75% of hockey people.

I'm not living in ignorance; I know full well this team needs a D overhaul, for lack of a better word. And we're going to see that after this year following the departures of Kimmo and Mez. This team needs an anchor.

But that doesn't change the fact that anything could happen if they make the playoffs. What if Mason, Giroux, Coburn, Vinny, and Voracek all play out of their minds? 2 of those guys in G and Coburn are difference makers in the playoffs already. Vinny seems like the player that comes alive come playoff time too. Not sure what he did in TB though. We've seen how Jake can play.

That's only four guys.

That's all it takes to make noise and more.

If you make it, anything can happen. I've repeated that so many times.

About Waffles:

It was Raffl’s first attempt at a shootout in the NHL. Something suggests it won’t be his last.

“Sometimes you just make decisions,” Berube said. “I had heard he is good at shootouts and I know he’s a confident kid, so I know going third the pressure wasn’t going to affect him.”

And it didn’t affect him as Raffl made Berube seem professorial with his goal.

“It’s nice to get the chance to score and to put it in was even nicer,” Raffl said. “They threw me out there once in awhile (in Sweden). So I had been in this situation before.”

It was later found out that he was being a bit facetious and that he was often used in shootouts in Sweden, which made his guarantee just before his attempt so perfect.

“He’s a funny guy,” said Giroux who extended his scoring streak to a career-best eight games (5-10-15) with a pair of assists . “Right before his attempt I [tried encouraging him] and said, ‘Let’s go Raff.’ He looked at us and said, ‘I got this boys.’ Just the way he said it, he’s a funny guy. He’s done so many good things for us since he’s been called up.”

Is Giroux going to Sochi? It didn't look like it through the first 15 games, but now?

I have mixed feelings about it personally, but I'd like to see him on the team, for his sake.

I'm really enjoying watching Raffl gain more confidence in the NHL. I think he could turn into a solid 2nd/3rd line role player for the Flyers for years to come.

Guy has been a dynamic, point per game player for 4 years(252 points in 245 games over last 4 seasons)...15 bad games shouldn't keep him off...of course, Chris Kunitz is a lock because who else could score a ton of points next to an elite center like Crosby
