if Phaneuf held out, could you imagine the Flyers offer? - Marc D
I'm not a fan of Phaneuf, but he's better than anything the Flyers have. And by a substantial margin too. I think that's a good deal for the Leafs. |

7 per year for his 28-35 year old seasons with the cap going up? Makes the Streit deal look even dumber. - PLindbergh31
I was actually in favour of signing Streit, but not for the deal he is on.
I thought he would help make a decent stop-gap, but even that may be pushing it.
Phaneuf I hope signs with Toronto. Sometimes its good to take a look at what other fans of opposing teams think of their players. Just take a look around on TSN for example. 90% are trashing such a deal.
Just because Phaneuf is the best available, doesn't make him the right player. |

Going to the Game tonight as I live in Edmonton, good hockey weather well below 0 and lots of snow! Late start for all you Easterners, anyone staying up to watch?
Be nice to see Giroux steamroll The Nuge right off the bat and score like he did against Crosby in the playoffs a few years ago. It would sure shake up Bryz!! |

Do you ever get snow in May? - PLindbergh31
It happens but for the most part rare. I had relatives from Slovakia visit a few years ago. Everything was pretty much melted, so they brought lighter clothing.
That's when a blizzard came. |

I hear you. I agree with your sentiment. If the Flyers could have had Phaneuf for the exact contract he signed with the Leafs I would have been on board. They would have drastically overpaid. |

I see a Bryz lost in the woods game. 5 goals allowed on 11 shots. |

Could be. They are the class of the East.
The ice was littered with hats in Chicago last night huh? I wonder what caused it? - PLindbergh31

I don't know. I went back and forth on that idea.
That's the thing with guys like Buff, Yandle and Phaneuf. They all have their negatives, but are hell of a lot better than what the Flyers ice.
I just think, with any of those three, its foolish to expect them to be "the guy on defense" on a Stanley cup winning team. They aren't good enough to be such a player, but their contract would put them in that category. I would have been okay with Phaneuf, but only under one condition. If they also bring in another really solid d-man to help. Sort of like how the Hawks have Seabrook and Keith. Or Boston with Chara and Seidenberg. Pittsburgh with Letang and Orpik.
Snider must be pulling at his pubes realising they cant use FA and cash to fix all the problems. |

Need one guy before they can even thinking about two. A team having a combo like Weber and Suter, Keith and Seabrook is pretty rare. |

Streit has his flaws, but again the idea was to try to bring someone in to provide offense without giving up assets for a guy that might only be marginally better
im glad theyve been patient in that respect, even if Streit is overpaid |

I'm watching the replay of the Canada/Cze game. I didn't see the first and second period...why'd Canada bench McDavid? |

Do you guys think the Flyers will be in on Dan Girardi? You see him more than I do. I don't think he's a true #1 D but is he a legit 1st pair? I would like to see him in Edmonton, along with an Erhoff perhaps. |

Pretty sure they weren't happy with the 2 penalties he took. |
