Now that the Leafs are going to lock up one of the best d-men in the league, long-term, they should shift their focus to finding a good #2 guy to play with him. - Feeling Glucky?
why who are they trying to trade for?
who's this "one of the best d-men in the league"? |

this is precisely why they need to avoid long term contracts with their current D - Dozzer
I have lately been wondering if some of the D might actually step up if Dion were to be gone. I know we got a small sample with the 2 game suspension, but he was still hangin' around. Can our defensive state really get worse than it already is? What are we gonna do, give up the most shots against in the league? I think we already have that covered.
it's a hot potato of a topic for sure. |

he isnt shut down.. he is barely two way.. his offense has become predictable so carlyle is trying to mold him into something he isnt. - Dozzer
Exactly!
He can barely hit the freakin net most of the time.
The leafs have a history of trying to mold players into some they are not.....which is why their winning history ended in 67. |

I'm not an arguing type, so I politely ask you to name 15 better d-men in the NHL. If you get to 20 I know you're lying. And I guarantee the range from 10-15 are all toss ups. |

how many do they need to keep?
Most of the guys can be replaced from within, or from the bargain bin.
Phaneuf, Bolland, McClement, and Reimer... those are the guys they should focus on re-signing... though Reimer is handing the reigns over to Bernier lately.
Gardiner and Holland are RFAs, so they won't be hard to retain.
after that? Raymond, Kulemin, Franson, Fraser, Ranger? They'll either want too much, or just suck. Replace them with like Leivo, D'Amigo, and 3 pylons. |

Depends what you talking about. Defensively there are 50 better guys at least. Offensively probly 15-20. |

they're not getting anyone. They've already got a guy who's got one of the best goals against/60, while facing the toughest competition in the NHL, who hits, blocks shots, puts up points, an does it all without any help. |
