Gardiner for Del Zotto? Why?
I think the Leafs would be better served using an expendable asset like Gardiner to improve their forward core for some more consistent scoring...what would Edmonton give for a guy like Gardiner?
Then go after a guy like Gleason to add some experience on the blue line...I can't see him costing much more than a 1st...though Carolina could be in the playoff hunt for awhile considering how bad the Metro division is - HabzSquanch
The canes are trying (unsuccessfully) to give him away. How in the hell do you figure he's not cost much more than a 1st? even if everyone on this planet didn't know the canes were desperately trying to dump him how the hell is he close to a 1st? |

(frank) your bush league team, (frank) John Scott and (frank) you for slagging our good man Aetherial.
He has been accepted, with open arms, in this thread. Your team lost. You're sad. You're bitter. Your team is poop, junk. You're sad. You're bitter. This, somehow, is all Aetherials fault and the only positive thing you can say about your joke franchise is that John Scott is a scoring machine.
And, for the record, my favourite part of your post was "desperate sarcasm that reeks of desperation". That's some mind blasting poop right there. - systemtool
And this does not sound desperate either? Am I sad and bitter (twice!) because the mighty Leafs had to get through a shootout to take out the worst team in the league on their home ice? NO.
I am overjoyed you got the 2 points--we don't want the points. We want #1 overall for the next 2 drafts.
Desperation is all over this thread, and in your whole city because your team is not meeting their expectations...believe me, we have some experience in that department in Buffalo through the years. |

SAying (frank) over and over does not count as witty or putting anything up my ass...it just shows how lame and desperate (there's that word again) you are.
Back to hockey, I thought the way the Leafs played in the second was the way they should be coached: fast, run-and-gun hockey. It seems like your coach wants to tighten up the D-zone play at the expense of your offensive weapons. This reminds me of what I hated most in Lindy Ruff when we had speed and scoring, but he choked it in order to play a boring brand of defensive hockey (that didn't win us anything anyway). |

Kessel Raise + Dion Raise - Buyouts ending - end of salary retention for Bernier deal = 600K cap increase. |

I can live with that.
It's a long term, don't like that, but the dollar amount is alright. Cap should be going up, we have a lot of space next year. We'll have about an average of 2.4 million to spend, per player, on 9 guys. According to Cap Geek anyways. Leafs top 6 six is all locked down and there is 4 dmen locked up. Not bad. Not great though. Could be more space if they trade a Liles or Gunnar. |

Yeah, those buyouts/retention of salary ending definitely helps us a lot here. Add on the rise of $7-8m on the cap and we still have the ability to do something good, hopefully somehow moving Liles along the way... |

Subban after he gets signed at 8 years/64m and the Habs then realise that he's just a big hit and big shot with little to no defensive ability

Either guess is as good as the other. Worried more about todays team, not so much 4 years from now. Who knows what happens by then. With the Cap going up as expected and with this new TV deal, the team should be okay. They have a ton of big contracts expiring in 4 years or so, so im not really that worried or stressed about these deals.
Though, in the sport of answering the question, I would say Dion. If things go sour, they will want to change the captaincy as a priority over a 2nd or 3rd line winger. I still have hope for Clarkson. More urgency in moving the higher cap hit, would only be logical. I may be in the minority but his game is really coming around. I was a fan of his before he came to Toronto. I remember unholy gloatly scoffed at me years ago when I suggest we trade Kaberle for Clarkson and a 1st. |

so that gives us an Extra 7 million to play with next year . We'll be fine, especially if we can move/ buy out Liles (Extra 3 mil next year!) |

It's going to be a banfest in here today.
Im totally going to avoid the whole Dion arguement today, but I am hungover so just warn me before you ban me? |

7 mil is a lot of $$$, but we don't even have another d-man that can play on the top pairing with Dion, let alone trying to get 2 if he was gone. It's really only a 500k raise, most would have said he is overpaid even if he signed for 5 mil a year |
