Those expansion fees, though... Bettman must be seeing dollars signs.
The cap will be going up 15 million per team (if those fees count towards revenue?) - Leeman4Gilmour
I think they need more teams in the GTA, I just don't think they're going to be permanent huge money makers like people think. They'd survive but this is Leafland. |

Absolutely not. They wouldn't be the Leafs. They'd be Senators 2.0 the second the new car smell wore off. Even if they were competitive, they're still not the Leafs.
They'd make money. Probably break even. But they wouldn't be a soaring success of a franchise that rakes in 500 million a year. - DTF69
After 30 years or so they might catch on, who the (frank) can wait that long though. |

Over Seattle? Explain. - Nucker101
Not over, but alongside. It's a western market that never gets mentioned for some reason.
Its got a good population, strong grassroots hockey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, cold climate, low winter competition in sports (because their winter teams are garbage). Its basically Minnesota but it might be too close to Chicago and that is why no one brings it up.
Plus the fact the league could have a winter classic at Lambeau? Surprised Bettman wouldn't put a team their just for that alone.
Plus they're close enough to the border that Toronto, Montreal and Winnipeg fans would probably all travel. Detroit and Chicago too. |

I would be devastated if the leafs move Gardiner for Del Zotto. The kid was everywhere again tonight, and obviously has become one of the more reliable guys for Carlyle (regularly seeing 24-25 mins a night!) - GardinerExpress
The Leafs would regret that trade big time. But apparently the Rangers can get Pacioretty for him. |

I think every single one of us on here would go see games but would the general public? I don't know if the demand would be all that high long-term. - daeth
They would definitely have to be in the Leafs/Habs/Wings/Bruins division. Those are all big draws. If New York could sustain 2 teams, the GTO could as well. They will never be as successful financially as the leafs, but I bet they would surpass teams like the jets, sens, and every sunbelt USA team |

The booze is catching up to me.
Crawled out of my drunken stupor to go to work only to crawl back into it tonight.
Hiccups, acid reflux, heartburn, the poops, and the fact I have no desire to finish off the last beer is starting to tell me to slow the (frank) down.

Del Zotto's best offensive seasons have come when he's received 4+ minutes of PP time. Gardiner gets 2 minutes. The only thing Del Zotto has on Gardiner is offensive output.
Such a pointless trade proposal. |

I bet Mtl would do Gallagher if it was Del Zotto +. It's hard to think of a guy whose stock has fallen more than MDZ |

I can't disagree. I think the GTA could potentially handle 2 expansion teams without losing money in all honesty but I don't know if they'd make much either. |

Phaneuf + Kadri + draft picks for Bufyglien
Ranger --> ECHL - twiztedmike
If you're set on trading Dion, how about Phaneuf, Reimer and Raymond for Eberle, Nurse, and Dubnyk. Short term pain for long term gain.

I've been drinkless until tonight myself. My family stuff is all happening late this year (this weekend) so we'll see how I survive it. |

this!
Gardiner has cracked 25 mins for us 7 times in the last 14 games, he has definitely kicked it up a notch. Del Zotto hasn't played that much a single game this year. Talk about past performances all you like, but it just doesn't make sense to take on a bigger salary for another offensive d man who is struggling. Give us a Travis Hamonic and then we'll talk |

Seattle, Vegas, and Quebec will all get teams, then there will be a 4th to make it 32.

Phoenix will be done in 5 years once the lease expires (there's a clause specifically for terminating it). In that time, I'll bet at least one more Southern American team hits the rocks. |

Yes, 34, good math for the NHL clubs though, over $1 billion in revenues from expansion fees that they don't have to share with the players. |
