Alright Esplen. MDZ is younger(marginally) and both are a fire drill in their own end. MDZ has far better career numbers. I think one for one is a decent deal, but if anybody is adding its toronto - Bieksa#3

Del Zotto = Gardiner defensively
Del Zotto > Gardiner offensively
Gardiner > Del Zotto when it comes to contract
Toronto needs someone who can play defense. Trading Gardiner for MDZ seems pointless. - daeth
Meh, a change of scenery might be best for both.
Perhaps fat boy will move Tanev, but the price would be higher then Gardiner |

I have always likes RC but he has totally changed the team and the way it plays, and so far its for the worse. They dont hit to hurt anymore, they dont fight. They won last year with skill and timely scoring, but mostly with grit and toughness to open up space for those guys - no longer the case. Then for some unknown reason he refuses to put the d pairings back together. I'm not saying Fraser is playing well, but whether it makes sense or not he and Franson together worked out okay last year, and was certainly better than whats going on right now, why not at least try it? He keeps fiddling with all the pairings except the top one and it aint workin. He says they are a defensive system first team - ? When? So far this defense first team looks crap compared to last year and with all the so called great additions. Why not stop fixing what wasnt broke? Boston didn't completely change the way they played after they lost 4 in a row to Philly, in fact they regrouped and won the whole thing. You dont overhaul the identity of the team over one awful 10 minutes. |

They would trade him because he is not developing as quickly as they would like and because the leafs are sending over former first round picks, one being a puck moving D man to help replace Gudbranson. Not saying Florida would do it, but I want to think that the value matchup is fairly close. - Holy_Makinaw99
They have their own Gardiner already. His name is Kulikov |

I too would like more than del zotto for Gardiner, but the only way you can justify it is that gards will have a significantly lower cap hit with their respective new contracts. As much as we would like to think otherwise, they are currently very similar players... - lumlums
I see some upside in Gardiner that is special. Maybe I am delusional but I see his upside as close to subban
He may not get there, but sure as hell I want more than del zotto |

The Sabres have grown into a team that competes for every square inch fo ice. Gone are the days when they are getting showed off pucks and when they are the team that blinks first on 50/50 pucks. Nolan has empowered all of his forwards and D to play their particular game and to maximize his own strengths within the team concept, and its paying dividends. Ryan Miller has been stupendous for the Sabres. Forget about his win-loss record. The guy continues to battle to keep his teammates in games. The Leafs on the other hand are not getting great performances from goaltenders Jonathon Bernier and James Reimer. When you are roughly 40 games into a season and the head coach hasn’t hitched his wagon to one starting goalie and delegated the other guy to being the back-up, issues will creep up in the room, on the bench and on the ice.

I think Garth is missing the fact that Buffalo couldn't possibly play as bad as they did in the first two months all season when they have Miller in net. Any improvement would seem substantial

GARDINER IS NOWHERE NEAR SUBBAN IN ANY ASPECT!!! THAT MIGHT BE THE WORST COMPARISON I'VE HEARD THIS YEAR. NOT MENTION GARDINER HAS ZERO PHYSICALITY TO HIS GAME. THE ONLY HITS HE GETS ARE THOSE IN THE MINUS COLUMN. I LIKE GARDINER, BUT TO MENTION HIM IN THE SAME SENTENCE AS SUBBAN IS JUST LUDICROUS. |

Look at them now. The difference is negligible.
Del Zotto's 40+ point season came when he was getting 4:11 of PP time per game. Now he's getting 2:20 a game and his numbers are poop.
Gardiner gets 2:18 of PP time a game. In his rookie season he only averaged 1:58. |

MDZ for gardiner makes no sense. PERIOD. |
|
|
|
MDZ has had better seasons and I'd be surprised if the Rangers were to trade them 1 for 1.
But yes, it could happen..... I think Colorado should try and get him as they could really use a powerplay quaterback. - Scabeh
Del Zotto has also had worse seasons, including this year. Both are similar players yes, but Gard's has not had a bridge deal yet (2-2.5 mil?) Whereas Del Zotto is coming off a bridge and looking for a raise (3.5-4 mil?) Just doesnt make sense to dump Gardiner because of the emergence of Rielly, to bring in another offensive d-man who is arguable worse in his own end |

So Dion is roughly 55th in scoring amung d men this yr. Is that where he should be placed or would u say you can look at career numbers |

If Gillis offered Tanev for Gardiner, he would get instantly hung up on. To say that Toronto would have to give up Gardiner + is just foolish and entering the scooby doo realm.
Not a chance in hell Nonis even considers trading a former 1st rd pick full of potential for an undrafted guy who has never even played 40 games in a season |

Gardiner will pull more trade value through the league than Del Zotto IMO. I also think they will both be moved so everyone can point and laugh at each other when we see their true worth |

Phaneuf isn't strictly an offensive defenseman. He's not completely useless like Gardiner and MDZ when he's not putting up points.
edit: Going forward Phaneuf's point totals will be closer to what he's putting up now than what he did in the past though. |
