Phaneuf should be jettisoned, but Komarov is sorely missed.

Leafs Nation is officially stupid.

- Atomic Wedgie

Well, they don't, you're right.

But only when ignoring the facts.

What facts!

It's like Bieksa#3 and Bloatsy are on holiday, so Leafs fans are picking up the trolling slack.

Come on. With the amount of BS thrown around about Phaneuf, you can't hide behind that argument.

Don't bother, he doesn't get it, some players click with a team and provide them with a spark, contributes in areas other than just points. It was a fit that the Leafs needed.

role players are the guys that allow the skill guys to thrive.. its always been that way

if the role players dont do well.. or if a team is lacking one.. then the skill guys sputter

Or goals against/60 minutes.
Where no #1 d-man has better numbers.
Or the difference in the Leafs' GA/60 when he's on or off the ice.

Or watching how other team's stars don't do poop against the Leafs, until that team's coach manages to get them out while Phaneuf is sitting, and then, surprise surprise, they score.

those facts.

But you'd have to watch the games and look at stats to see those.
And damn it, that means accepting reality.

If I'm not mistaken, he was +12 60 points, then he signed his big deal and was -11 the next year and his points total have dropped every year after signing his huge deal with Flames. Buyer beware.

Look no further than the Black Hawks, their role players were key to their two cups.

Role players are a dime a dozen.

They are interchangeable parts.

Leo Komarov just wasn't very good.

Which is why the Leafs were indifferent to him returning to Russia, and why 29 other GMs couldn't be bothered to pick up the phone.

You thought he was an important piece.

30 GMs disagree with you.

Are you a better assessor of talent than every NHL GM?

also.. the only FA signings they tend to make (other than Hossa who has been there long enough not to count really) are role playing guys. they develop and dont overpay their own top talent.

Most of the game is though.

And the Leafs have had some key injuries to their penalty kill unit.

The 30 GM's know that Komo is a role player who clearly can earn more $ in the KHL than he can make in the NHL. To whitewash it and not acknowledge this simple circumstance and call him a spare part is simply wrong, imo.

Which brings us back to Phaneuf and the question of the terms of his contract.
