With February , March , and April for ruining the draft pick with a late burst of excellent play.

THE LEAFS HAVE NOW BECOME A SOFT TEAM. THEY REALLY HAVE LOST ALL PHYSICALITY AND DON'T HIT ANYONE ANYMORE. HAS ANYONE ELSE NOTICED THIS?

Totally agree.. I honestly don't know what happen from last year?! Are they still depressed from Game 7 that they don't want to do anything anymore? It's not like he lost anyone other than Komarov ...we have the same guys that laid the body last year... and we even gained a new, better one (than Komarov) in Clarkson...we won games with our physicality last year ...I'm honestly confused..

The Achilles heel of this team over the years has been over paying "top" defensemen (well their definition of top dmen) The leafs have been looking for a quality center since sundin left. Often we are scraping by trying to find a fit cause we are always cash strapped to get the quality center or depth at center. To tie up that much money on the back end is just mismanagement of the cap.

I'm not a Phaneuf fan but I think he would be better logging 18-21 minutes a game instead of 25+. How can that move be justified when he becomes one of the highest paid players on the team? I'm just shaking my head right now! The terms of this deal just boggle the mind! Too long, too much. 2 years at 5 mill a year, with a 3rd yr option, for me would be over paying, but at least you aren't stuck with a horrible contract. Good luck trying to get rid of him half way thru when he flops on his face!

Komarov was a huge loss. They need to pay the man and get him back over here.

This has been their problem all year. They don't hit and don't fight. They physically abused the bruins in the playoffs. That is how you weaken top teams. The leafs aren't a top tier team but they had the ability to soften teams up by steam rolling them. That's what made them so hard to play against last year. They definitely miss Komorov!

Ehhh cap hit seems alright. Term is kinda stinky, would rather it be for 5 years but not really to upset with that signing. When the cap rises, 7M for your top Dman won't be so bad.

Indeed he was. He was small, but fearless. Think he will come back?

Also, I apologize for 3 replies, don't know what happened there.

I think it takes more than what people think to bring him back. He loves where he's at and he's very successful over there (stat wise too). All I know is I hope he comes back, at least for the Habs games so I can watch him run at Subban all night.

The Leafs are somehow near the top of the league in hits. I don't know how they count hits at the ACC but I'm not seeing it. They are soft.

The Sabres have grown into a team that competes for every square inch fo ice. Gone are the days when they are getting showed off pucks and when they are the team that blinks first on 50/50 pucks. Nolan has empowered all of his forwards and D to play their particular game and to maximize his own strengths within the team concept, and its paying dividends. Ryan Miller has been stupendous for the Sabres. Forget about his win-loss record. The guy continues to battle to keep his teammates in games. The Leafs on the other hand are not getting great performances from goaltenders Jonathon Bernier and James Reimer. When you are roughly 40 games into a season and the head coach hasn’t hitched his wagon to one starting goalie and delegated the other guy to being the back-up, issues will creep up in the room, on the bench and on the ice.

Would have to be a lot lore than Del Zotto for Gardiner

Del Zotto and their first minimum.

Personally, I would not trade Gardiner at all

I too would like more than del zotto for Gardiner, but the only way you can justify it is that gards will have a significantly lower cap hit with their respective new contracts. As much as we would like to think otherwise, they are currently very similar players...

Del Zotto = Gardiner defensively
Del Zotto > Gardiner offensively
Gardiner > Del Zotto when it comes to contract

Toronto needs someone who can play defense. Trading Gardiner for MDZ seems pointless.

Alright Esplen. MDZ is younger(marginally) and both are a fire drill in their own end. MDZ has far better career numbers. I think one for one is a decent deal, but if anybody is adding its toronto

Gudbranson has the tools to be a top pairing shut down D.

Which is why Florida probably won't trade him.

- BetterCallSaul

They would trade him because he is not developing as quickly as they would like and because the leafs are sending over former first round picks, one being a puck moving D man to help replace Gudbranson. Not saying Florida would do it, but I want to think that the value matchup is fairly close.
