my entire point is not having a replacement is not a reason to overpay for someone.

its flawed logic that usually haunts a team by the end.

- Dozzer

Thats a great point, if you have no intention of winning games and have no problems letting good players walk because you prefer lower paid players. You're not overpaying Dion because of a lack of replacements, you could replace him with Holzer right now if you wanted to. The point is that you're taking your best player away at a position and would rather leave a gaping hole in his place than spend a few bucks to properly address the situation.

- poohcrumbs

umm.. they are facts. watch for it tonight.

people will go outside on him.. and he'll get beat.. then he looks like he half skates to get back into the play.. and as for missed poops.. all the (frank)ing time.

seriously.. watch for those three aspects tonight.. you cant miss them if you are watching for them

yay.

think he makes the team? i dont. nor are many projecting him to.

you really dont think the button pushers and string pullers behind the monstrous MLSE didnt have something to do with it?

money greases wheels.. and the leafs have a ton of it.

- Dozzer

Oh ffs Dozzer, if you want to spout this crap, go get a Canucks jersey.'
Hockey Canada does not work that way and you know it.

That's just silly crap spouted by Leafs haters.

Completely different.
The Leafs needed a leader to calm the waters...keep everyone in check.
Dion is simply not that person right now.

- Fakepartofme

How is it completely different? Weren't the Bruins leading game 4 of that series 3-0 going in to the 3rd? How is dropping a 4-1 lead worse that dropping a 3-0 lead? And then losing the next 3 games in a row, even with the great leadership Boston is perceived to have.

Disliking Dion is fine, but continuing to make up poop to rag on him? Wow.

Dion doesnt value winning and likes his clothes and cars more.
Dion only got invited to team canada because MLSE told them to invite him.
ect ect

Like, wow. So many times, I've seen people who are saying these things come on here, and preach that you shouldnt pass off opinions and made up poop as facts. Continuing to rag on peoples opinion with the sort of tone that other people get banned for.

Some people on this site, including "Authority", really need to take a step back and realize that they're doing the exact same thing they've been telling everyone else not too.

This site man.. Has gone way downhill the past year.

Every defenseman in the league gives up the puck and turns it over.

Seriously though, thats a weak arguement. That's like saying if you're not willing to trade or let JVR or Kessel walk, than you hate winning games.

pay the ones who are worth it (kessel) and jettison the guys who arent (phaneuf)

destroy the culture of entitlement and eventually you build something proper.

the ranger and flyers have been trying to buy their way to a cup for years... rangers won it last when?

- Dozzer

See, your argument makes sense, except when you say Phaneuf isn't worth it.

With Phaneuf on ice(5-on-5) the team gets scored on 1.59 times/60 minutes.

With Phaneuf off the ice(5-on-5) the team gets scored on 2.56 time/60 minutes.

Phaneuf faces the best of the other teams, and when he does, they don't score as much.

At the same time, 5-on-5, the Leafs score 2.58 goals/60 minutes.
With him off the ice, however, it drops to 1.98 goals/60 minutes.

So, when Phaneuf is on the ice, against the best players of the other teams, the Leafs score more, and are scored against less.

Now, in hockey, the team that scores more tends to win games. So players that stop the other team from scoring, while helping your team score would probably be preeettty important.
