it'd be funny to watch kapernick murder the pathetic cowboys defense and the awesome 49 defense lead by whitener crush romo

Just odd. I'm a fringe football fan at best and I've known this for a week. You're live blogging the game didn't know how this affects the Eagles?

To be fair, who envisioned Romo pulling this win out?

it wasn't really romo pulling the win out it was more of washington just being a completely crappy team with one of the worst defenses this year

ah if you look it up minnesota had the worst defense in the league followed by the skins
if romo faces a team like the 49ers who are stellar on defense he'll be exposed

This team needs to get rid of players that they can't get rid of ( examples : hartnell striet). I like our team but we need to get faster on the forward side and the d side. Two things that are hard to get via free agency and trades. This team probably needs to have bad years to draft well and build the team but we also could make the playoffs if we get hot but who knows.

I disagree. They already have a solid core in place, they need to augment it on defense and change the mix a bit.

Now, do they have a GM capable of doing that?

Good question, I'm just hoping Hextall is the one to answer it.

I'd be fine if it was Holmgren, too.

But I have my doubts there.

my stance is primarily based around that it will be hard to really augment that defense without taking from that solid core

I look at the core as being Giroux, Couturier and Voracek...to an extent Brayden Schenn. Those would be my 4 "untouchables".

Brayden Schenn is the one I'd consider moving knowing Laughton is waiting in the wings.

The reverse is also true. I'd be OK moving Laughton because Schenn is on the roster. It would boil down to two factors-which one had more value in a trade and what the salary difference between the two would be.

Gus and Grossmann both out. Wonder if Lauridsen is getting called up?

Grossmann is out with the Flu, could be back against Minnesota. I'd rather see them recall Manning or give Alt a shot, rather than add another lumbering big guy.

Trading Laughton, an unknown, is a bad move in my opinion. He'd also be traded cheap because nobody is giving up a lot for a kid with 5 NHL games under his belt. It's a bad move from the Flyers perspective.

I'd go with the thought of a team would want the NHL experience rather then hope Laughton turns out to be what we think & hope he will be at the NHL level.

Alt would be interesting, especially since it is, at least at this point in time, a known short-term call up.

Mesz, then Hartnell, then Simmonds are the pieces I'm trying to move in any deal. Unfortunately, it's doubtful any combination of those 3 is going to get us what we need.

The Flyers gave up a lot for Schenn, a kid with 9 NHL games on his resume.

i agree our core is solid we're just missing a few key players to be good in the future

a dman like schenn is a good player to start the defense around
we have too many players like him though (Grossmann, Coburn, a healthy meszsaros)
what's needed is a timonen like player who can move the puck around (are there any young players who play like erik johnson available?)
our offense is either grindy (hartnell, simmonds, downie) pass first (schenn, giroux, voracek) i'm not sure how to classify Couturier (Couturier can play defensive hockey but not sure what his offensive talent is yet) or read (read is obviously fast but he's not a real sniper nor a play maker)
then we have vinny who's an aging vet

what we needs is to get rid of hartnell or simmonds (hartnell preferably i think simmonds offers much more to the team), then git rid of grossman coburn or mezsaros)

Yeah, but it wasn't just Schenn. And that fact could be used by some as an argument for while being used as an argument against by others...
